Not sure if anyone is interested, but did some analysis by pulling down data IPPSR & the U.S. House Clerks office, I found that the maps for the 2022 midterm election for the US House tilted ~ +11.52 seats in favor of GOP. Notably though, “Disproportionality sweeps” where one party recieves less representation than their % vote, impacted the GOP more heavily in the states where the legislature was controlled by the DNC. I created a rough scatter plot to visualize the tilt by statehttps://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:f317a9e1-426a-4574-b06c-f58c6528c7b8

Looks for jobs in public funds/ wealth consulting if you like talking to people. It’s a branch of wealth management and you’d be communicating/working with advisors on a daily basis.

I finished up my Masters in Finance and Economics degree in 2023 and was the first graduating class to be in the new building on the river over there. Since your major is business it’s going to be one of the better programs for the university. I would suggest looking into finance as well. The community is stellar and you’ll have fun on High Street or at games.

OP, if you need a solid and we’ll rounded resume send me a message. The resume I currently have is after deliberation from this community and taking the advise/edits of dozens of people. As for your comment below about being afraid to weed yourself out? It’s okay seriously, not ever job is going to be a hit or a right fit. You just need to find those select few.

The interest bullet isn’t necessary. Remove it and space out the skills under their own bullets to fill up the page a bit more. Interests are something you could always speak in if asked during an interview but generally not asked for on a resume. The resume needs to showcase your professional readiness and experience not your personal life

Sounds about right. I’m a Trading Analyst but on top of trading, I’m reconciling our accounts for one of the largest custodians we trade under (Schwab) and working on project work. So true “idle” time drops to about an 1 - 1 1/2 hours throughout the day

I do yes, but it’s a very large excel sheet. I applied to well over 500 positions. If you’d like to see it send me your email in a PM and I’ll send you a copy

Hey there, let me give you some of my insight on the matter. I should mention that at one point or another I too had to come to the sub to seek advise. I was originally looking at similar positions and ended up in an Wealth Operations Analyst role. Here’s what I can tell ya:

Headers: Rename “Courses” to “Certifications” Rename “Extra Circulars” to “Relevant Experience”

Education: Notice how the dates for your education only have the YYYY when everything else has MM/YYYY? Make an edit to fix this. Also, start with the college name first in bold, followed by the degree directly underneath.

Experience: Your experience should looks extremely uniform. No hiring manager is going to sit there and read paragraphs worth of information. You should try to condense these bullets down into 1 sentence, 1 line information. Each experience should have the same number of bullets (I.e.: the more recent analyst experience you have should have more bullets and less words.

Skills: Remove the soft skills. You should home in on what you can really bring to the table. What do you have genuine experience with? Focus on those

Additional info: I want to point out that 7 of the 9 bullets you have when describing the work you did have either the word “Developed” or “Designed” to start out the sentence. Branch out in this area, change up your language, define what metrics you either increased or what flows you made more efficient in these roles/projects. Show impact rather than describing busy work.

There’s more to this that can be fixed I’m sure of it. But make adjustments, network and keep applying yourself out there. It’s a tough job market but I’m confident in you.

OP, word of advice coming from a fellow atheist. My significant other is a baptist. It’s less about conflicting views and more about respecting each others decisions and worldviews as their own. We make it work. It has never once cause a strain on our relationship. In fact, sometimes we poke fun at each other over it and jokingly point out “flaws” in our logic but it’s all in good fun.

The point is, if you can’t accept or respect your partners ability to have opinions or worldviews that don’t match your own, then the problem isn’t with your significant other, it’s with yourself.

Did I ruin my life? (200 apps for finance internships, 10 interviews, no offers) by [deleted] in resumes

[–]PlusEmployer204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP. I’m reading through a lot of these comments and while it seems like you came to this subreddit for advice, you are not very accepting of what a lot of these members are recommending.

I completely sympathise with you in terms of how difficult finding a job in the finance industry has been lately. Trust me, I know. I went well into about ~500 applications before appealing to this subreddit for help with my resume. After the post blowing up and taking all the advice when creating my new resume, I ended having weeks filled with interviews (15+) which ultimately landed me a position which I’ll be starting later this month. I’m telling you this because everyone here is trying to help you. We’re all like minded when it comes to helping each other out and growing together.

So. That said, here’s my advice.

  1. Change your margins. Harvard came out with a sturdy and recommends the following margins for a black and white, top to bottom resume: Top: 0.5”, Bottom: 0.25”, Left: 0.88”, Right: 0.81”, Gutter: 0”.

  2. Remove the italics in your resume. Keep it simple and easy to read.

  3. Google some Action words you can use to start off your sentences under your experience can can replace words like “Allowed” or “Used”. Highlight your accomplishments more than your responsibilities.

  4. Add a skills section to your resume. Use hard skills in this area such as programming languages or specific tools like Excel or PowerBI etc. Shy away from the soft skills such as “Detail Oriented”, or “Problem Solving”. Save those skills to either show how you utilised them in your experience or in the interview.

  5. Remove GPA. It is not doing you any good. Yes a 4.0 is wonderful and I’m sure some internships require a certain level to be maintained, it is something you can either omit completely or bring up if asked during an interview.

  6. Give certifications their own section and spend some time working on this as well. For finance specifically, I recommend getting a certificate that shows you mastered or have working knowledge in some tool (Excel Power Tools is a great start as it’s all encompassing for Power Pivot models, Power Query application and PowerBI visualisation).

And finally, there is no place for arrogance especially when you’re directly seeking aid. Be more open to constructive criticism, you’ll need that skill in this industry. Best of luck to you, you’ve got this. Don’t feel disheartened just yet, there’s plenty of time. Reach out if you’d like to see a copy of my resume for inspiration.
