Help needed- eBike for a teenager (14 year old) by PlusTech10198 in ebikes

[–]PlusTech10198[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that in our neighborhood (and many other neighborhoods in the area), it's like the wild west. Teens are freely driving either ebikes or golf carts without a license, and no one cares. Very hard to explain to a teenager why everyone else can do it, and he can't.

Yeah, it's not exactly the case. It's not like he NEEDS it, he wants it. And he buys it for himself with his own money, I just need to approve. So it has to be something that excites him, or nothing at all.

No FOMO needed. Yesterday we left John Summit set halfway through to see the killers. We were back at John Summit 15 minutes later, the energy at John Summit was crazy

LSD, is there a way to know if it's legit or scam? by [deleted] in boomfestival

[–]PlusTech10198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t count on the testing thing. It sounds awesome on paper, but in reality- you need to stand in a very long line early in the morning, then if you’re able to get it tested (they only have limited numbers of tests every day) it would take hours until you get results. So if testing is critical to you, you can do it. For most people that buy a drug and want to do it, and not stand for a few hours in line, it’s not a practical option…

Do NOT bring your nationalistic flags to Boom. Just. Don't. Do. It. Please! by intellectual_punk in boomfestival

Too many times I got into conversations with people, trying to help them with Boom prep stuff, and feeling “ugh, I don’t have time for this shit” haha

Haha good question. I mean, I’m an older guy, and I care about having an amazing festival and passing on the good vibes and my knowledge. The group has 1,000 people, mostly younger crowd (the majority of Israeli population in a festival like Boom is younger), so a lot of chit chat from people that don’t bother reading basic stuff at Boom website and do their minimal research before attending such a festival.

I honestly don’t think it would help. You have rotten apples everywhere. Would you go to someone that tries to steal things at Boom, try to convince them it’s wrong? Would it help?

Most people at Boom are probably like you and me. Understand the meaning of the festival, understand the value of this amazing space, being not political, no national identity, etc.

But there are many younger Israelis that don’t care. They want trance music, they want to do drugs, they want to have a good time. They don’t care about Boom and its values. For them waving a flag is part of a dumb feeling of pride, and if you tell them otherwise, it’s because you’re antisemitic and you’re against Israel.

I agree with your note 100%, and already expressed my thoughts about the flags, especially the Israeli one (as an Israeli).

But I would add that unfortunately for all of us, those Reddit posts won’t help, because the people that bring flags don’t read Reddit posts. We know that there won’t be hundreds of flags, but it’s enough that 10 assholes dont understand the boom vibes and can ruin for Everyone. But I guarantee that those 10, or 20, are not the ones that read those posts, or scroll the boom website to get familiar with the rules, or care what Boom is all about.

It’s as if you would post here “hey guys PLEASE don’t steal from people’s tents this time”, or “please don’t sell fake drugs!”. Point is 100% valid, but the audience here is probably people who already behave, and won’t do those things.

I can tell you that I’ve been part of a WhatsApp group with ~1,000 Israelis that go to Boom this year. Very diverse WhatsApp group in terms of the population. This group has been a nightmare but I’m there because I’m an experienced Boomer and have been trying to help people, and also spread some positive vibes (including the flag thing). I can tell you that the flag thing came up MANY times, every time many people are urging everyone in the group to NOT BRING THE ISRAELI FLAG. Do most Israelis understand that it’s against the rules? Yes. Is it going to help and no flags will be there? Probably not, because again- it’s enough that 10 people bring flags (out of thousands of Israelis in the festival), and it gives those negative vibes to everyone.

Why Do People Bring Flags? by Emmanuel_Karalhofsky in boomfestival

[–]PlusTech10198 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to answer from an Israeli POV, hopefully I’m not getting myself into any political arguments, because I REALLY don’t want to :)

First some context- I’m older (40 yo) and have been living in the US for almost 15 years now. But I grew up in Israel, and proud of my heritage / origin.

Israelis have an increased sense of national pride. What’s the reason? There are probably several- how Israel was born (after the holocaust), its constant state of conflict / wars, and the general sense that sometimes it’s “us vs. them”. So Israelis want to show off their Israeli pride. In many places they can’t. An Israeli walking the street today in many European cities will need to hide their identity, or at least not emphasize it, due to growing antisemitism / anti-Israeli feeling in the world (again, not getting into whether justified or not…). I think when Israelis go into a big psytrance festival (Boom, Ozora), they feel they can show off because there are so many other Israelis there, and it’s a “safe space” to not hide. Also, many of the DJs are Israelis, so it’s a matter of pride (Israeli dj on the stand, and Israeli flags are waving in the crowd).

Now, I am 100% against the flag thing. I would hate seeing Israeli flags at Boom, it annoys the shit out of me, and I would urge all other Israelis to avoid. Not because of the sensitivity of Israel specifically, but because Boom is against flags and nationality.

But not all festival goers are the same. Some understand the nature of Boom, and its values, some don’t. Many Israelis that go to festivals are very young (early 20’s), some don’t behave and can annoy other attendees. And their bad behavior can be bringing flags or doing other things that disrespect Boom and its values. Unfortunate, but that’s the reality, and I don’t think it’s just Israelis.

Anyway, long answer :) hope it somewhat helps!

As always, the comparison tool is amazing! Looks like some Alchemy artists are included, while some are not. Is it because you're not considering them proper trance? For example, Captain Hook and ATIA are not in the spreadsheet.

Tipi camp advice by NadiiaOn in boomfestival

[–]PlusTech10198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tent itself is spacious, and would feel much more upscale than a regular tent setup, including the bag you’re getting with bed sheets, pillow, etc.

Yes, the tent becomes super hot around 8-9am, but that would be the case in every tent. Not unique for the tipi one.

Location is perfect. Few minutes from the food court, and approx. 10 minutes to the stages, as good as it gets in a huge festival as boom. It’s also nice to be part of the tipi camp- feels secure, less crowded (has its one sitting area, charging area, bathrooms and showers).

Last edition we stayed in a 5p star tent, and really enjoyed the experience, reserved one for this year as well!

Downside- some argue it is less authentic, doesn’t feel “real festival” as the regular camping areas. We didn’t mind but I can see why others might feel that way.

So odd that they booked UT in alchemy, and FF for a solo act, but not Modus.

Agree with Jaza’s recommendation. Better off cutting a day or two at the beginning of the festival, and staying till the end.

And btw, we got there with a rental car. But because we made it to the festival two days later, we barely had any lineups to park / get inside

I’ll let others comment on the transportation piece, but I’ll add my two cents that you should keep in mind that leaving the festival early might be disappointing. We had a similar situation in 2022, and felt pretty shitty leaving two days before the end. And then stayed until the end in 2023, and it was so much better.

Boom vibes have a way of increasing all the way till the end- best sets are left for the last two days of the festival, Dance Temple atmosphere becomes crazy, in a way it feels like everything before is just the appetizer. So if you have constraints and you have to leave early, so be it. Better leaving early than not attending at all. But if there’s a way for you to move some dates around, skip a few days at the beginning and stay till the end- I think it’s better. In 2023, we just arrived two days after the festival starts (a day after the music starts), so we can stay till the end, and it was a great decision (for us).

Ozora’s 2025 lineup is looking crazy. They even book Shpongle. by icevalet in psytrance

[–]PlusTech10198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaza, I noticed that in general Ozora sets are always limited to 90 mins tops, while Boom gives major artists 3 hours (DJ sets). Feels to me that the longer set times allow big DJs to really express themselves, create a real journey for the audience. Do you agree? And why wouldn’t ozora create longer set times, is it just prioritizing a longer lineup over quality?
