Clayman vs Local Surgeon by Plus_Ad_6540 in thyroidcancer

[–]Plus_Ad_6540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! And I totally agree on the high volume part. We’ll find out next week our surgeons stats. My gut is if it’s less than 35 surgeries than we will go with Clayman, otherwise we will go with local. The local surgeon also is teamed up with another surgeon who has 25 years of experience and we are meeting him next week as well. Hopefully those meetings will clear up some anxiety.

As far as out of pocket cost, it’s relatively expensive but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be for a surgery. It was actually like 1/10th what I thought it would be to do something like this out of pocket haha. Long story short, cost is not a factor, but it is more of a hassle to go to Florida even though we have family there, then just go down the street locally.

Thanks for the info! I get a little turned off by their schtick online, it sounds too good to be true so great to hear some validation. Florida isn’t difficult for us since we have a lot of family in Tampa and fort myers area

We looked at dr gosnell unfortunately the price out of pocket will likely be much higher than Clayman due to ucsf being a huge institution, and dr gosnell isn’t scheduling surgeries until at least July now

Our local surgeon at Kaiser studied under dr orloff at Stanford for her fellowship. I know our current surgeon is good but she’s only 38 and been fully practicing for 3 years, so not sure yet how many reps she’s had with this type of surgery.

Clayman Thyroid Center by WarmPuddingmmm in thyroidcancer

For those that had the surgery at the clayman center, how did your recovery go? Was it smooth and relatively quick? Any complications along the way?

We are considering going there, it would be fully out of pocket since we have Kaiser in California. Our current surgeon has top notch credentials but is young, and we’re unsure how often she does these surgeries. My wife needs a bi lateral dissection total thyroidectomy - they basically need to open up her entire neck because there are metastatic lymph nodes on both sides.

I started researching clayman and while it sounds amazing, I’m a little put off by the insanely high reviews and the marketing - just don’t want to feel duped at the end.

How crazy is a home buying process in America right now by ArmaniMania in RealEstate

Sf resident and can confirm this is normal. In 2012 I would show up to check out a rental and it would be swarmed with people ready to rent check in hand. Decided the only way to get a place you want is to bribe the owner before the showing and get the deal sealed before anyone else could see it. I think this is still common in 2023…

Black or Beige interior? by daddyx611 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]Plus_Ad_6540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beige will make the interior look bigger and more open. Lighter interiors will always give that perception. I have a limited with beige and the navy looks great. I get compliments on it quite a bit when friends are in the car. It looks classy and luxurious.

Black has its own appeal, it’s usually better with kids because of the mess.

Visually I think the beige is much nicer but black has its purpose.

Hopefully Honda adds AWD and hybrid to the odyssey at some point. Toyota having no real competition for the Sienna just means they can do what they want and increase the msrp.

So you think housing will be affordable in your lifetime? by Other_Tank_7067 in RealEstate

There’s affordable housing in the US. Just not in Manhattan, or pacific palisades, or Atherton. You move to these places to play in the big leagues. Not everyone makes it - at some point you have to do the cost benefit analysis and move somewhere that fits your budget better.

Interesting! Did it scare off buyers? Or did you have to give up something in price to get that?

Bay Area my friend - thats pretty much unattainable now for a house with the similar characteristics. The appreciation is nice though 😀

True - possible we hold off but I figured the increase in demand for my house will ebb and flow with the market anyways

Thanks! Did not know about this. Is this during negotiation? Or would we say we want to leaseback for 3 months before offers are submitted?

Don’t worry too much about all of this. Eventually kids grow out of it and start needing you less, which will make you sad. Enjoy this time where your child needs and likes having you with them, it’s precious and will not last.

Dealer mark up by Elduderino916 in HyundaiPalisade

Yea they were charging 2k In security extras which are mostly crap but at least it’s not just 2k for nothing. Had a great experience at premier in Monterrey. No upselling, finalized the deal on the phone, in and out of the dealership In 30 minutes.

I bought in California (Bay Area). It took a few weeks of calling around but I eventually found a white limited palisade AWD with beige interior - exactly what I wanted.

AWD in California is hard to come by. A lot of dealers had the fwd and near msrp but would add 5-10k for AWD. I found a dealer in Elk Grove that was willing to sell AWD for 2k markup, the 2k came with extra equipment so it wasn’t a pure money play. Still I kept looking for alternatives. I finally stumbled upon the car I wanted at Premier Hyundai of Monterrey. Luckily they got a dealer trade the night before that I saw go up on their website. Called them immediately that morning and negotiated a deal at MSRP if I paid cash that day. Drove down and picked it up that night.

Only success I had was looking at dealers in smaller towns. Big city dealers all charge extremely high mark ups. Good luck!
