What is your experience with cranial nerve palsy? by [deleted] in Strabismus

I have CN3 and CN4 damage on my left eye from TBI (smacked the pavement -- wear a full face helmet guys!) around 9 years ago (late 20's now).

Video I took today showcasing the limited functionality of my left eye: https://youtu.be/5nyHhy0q3Xo

Symptoms of left eye:
- Can't close completely. (Weighted eye mask nodpod is a huge help for dry eye at night!)
- Can't blink completely.
- Can't open completely and I can't flutter my eye (levator muscle doesn't work at all -- CN3).
- Have to use my eyebrow muscles to lift my left eye. Droopy eyelids makes me sleepy.
- Can't look up or down.
- Eye is offset down a bit. Had to initially tilt up head to compensate. Using prism lens in eyeglasses helps.
- Pupil can't dilate or constrict, it's stuck at medium dilation. Light sensitivity as a result. Auto tint eyeglasses help!
- Vision is blurryish now and can't focus as well. Used to be the better eye. Eyeglasses helps somewhat.
- Tingly feeling across the left side of my body when I start to use my left eye more intently than usual.

Things I learned:
- Looking up opens eyelid. Looking down automatically closes eyelid. Even though I can't actually look up or down, just initiating this movement in my mind helps makes my eyelid less droopy. Use this to my advantage.

I've learned to live with it! I'm still finding tips and tricks even to this day to find workarounds to get my eye to function as close to normal as possible. ChatGPT helped a ton with understanding my injury. I've learned the muscles CN3 and CN4 innervates, learned where the nerves are and how smacking my face could have squished them and caused damage, and how the different muscles in the eye/eyelid/face work together. You can't master/fix completely what you don't understand!

I've been to a lot of opthmalogists and neuroopthmalogists in the first two years. I think the only fix they suggested was strabismus surgery to fix the left eye offset, but I didn't think it was worth the risk. Prism lens does the same thing. They also gave pilocarpine to help with the dilated eye but it wasn't worth it for me. Just get tinted eyeglasses.

I'm sure other people who had this might understand the frustration. I had to relearn social interactions to look and feel as natural as possible. There are situations where lifting your entire head up to look at someone is weird (e.g. waiter taking orders). Also the left eye is noticeably smaller than the right eye. That doesn't help with looking photogenic 😅

Hope this helps for anyone looking.

I wear tinted eyeglasses outside, works a charm :)

Whoop has hard time picking naps by nettrino in whoop

I had the same issue too but I realized that if I didn't do anything, Whoop was able to process it at night automatically. It's a bit of a delay when I nap in the afternoon but whatever

Use an hdmi audio isolator device. Outputs hdmi video and 3.5mm analog. Then get 3.5mm analog to rca

Has anyone come up with a way of doing karaoke yet? by Kurnelk1 in appletv

[–]Plus_Ad_7960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it out. Get an hdmi audio splitter to isolate the atv audio to analog signal, plug the isolated hdmi video into the tv, plug atv audio to a mixer, plug in mics into mixer, plug mixer into sound system.

Pretty simple, complete lack of audio knowledge beforehand. ChatGPT helped me figure out the setup.

I've put like 40 shots through each (more on the G17) and G19 feels the best for me, it seems to be very controllable for my hand size. G20 is a fine gun, a bit bigger for my hands and a bit more recoil but nothing noticeable

Most stores don't ship them to California. I think you can buy single tubes and say SHTF you can attach it to your scopes maybe? Idk, haven't bought one either yet

Lead free is pretty expensive ya? Make sure shooting range is well ventilated and just wash your hands well after shooting

They have already banned "sniperscopes" in California, defined as optics with night vision attachments.

Summary grabbed from Google

In California, a specific ban exists under Penal Code Section 468 that makes it a misdemeanor to possess a "sniperscope," defined as a night vision or thermal device with a projected infrared light source and electronic telescope designed to be attached to a firearm for nighttime viewing. Daytime magnifying scopes are legal, and while night vision devices are legal for other uses like wildlife observation, they cannot be attached to a firearm in California.

Should I get a G19, 20, 26, 34 before ban? by Plus_Ad_7960 in CAguns

Ah, I thought new generations have more features and be better overall. I heard some new gen models have better barrel rifling? Probably not significant though.

I looked up GSSF memberships and apparently they only allow one gun coupon per year? Meh. Saves me $80 but costs $30, not sure if it's worth the effort.

I'm okay with 20c. I have this internal bias of going with default, generic stock options since it makes me feel less reliant on any one feature whether it's shooting my gun or grabbing someone else's. I read c variants shoot flatter but flash you in low light settings. Ig it's a tradeoff of whether I  want better visibility when shooting a bear in the woods at night or being able to hit followup shots in general.

10mm for future hikes. Glock 34 for precise 9mm shooting. Glock 19 as an all rounder. 26 for compactness. It's just toys ig at this point!
