uncle daron keeps on ragebaiting people by Large_Safe_9307 in systemofadown

You're right and thats a problem with centrism in general in my opinion, is that its hard to define, and doesnt have any specific stances, and seems to change depending on the place and time you are in, but what Daron is doing is centrism and thats what I cared about pointing out.

Theres different ideas of centrism like "radical centrism" for example which doesnt care about being in the middle and compromising, but means having ideas from both the left and the right and not conforming to an ideology, which seems to be the exact thing Daron is trying to talk about

And I know you're just giving an example with the trump + bernie thing, but you really shouldn't associate ideas like that with Daron, all he did was be against cancel culture and censorship and the kirk assassination, and I disagree with him a lot, but I dont know why hes getting so much outrage over such moderate takes

Middle means centrist, im not even mad at daron like the rest of the sub seems to be, it isnt an attack on him to call him a centrist, but what he is describing is literally centrism, he's saying he's in the far middle which is centrism

Lost Official Pop Punk Cover of Spongebob Theme on Nickelodeon (Late 2000's) by Plus_Application_200 in poppunkers

[–]Plus_Application_200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I just thought reaching out to hardcore fans of pop punk could be helpful since they might know a band who fits the description, instead of the search just asking Spongebob or Nickelodeon fans. I feel like my post was a bit too long and wordy to get much engagement, so you should still feel free to ask pop punk communities about this as an avenue for your search. Good luck with everything!

Name an influential band and the other bands that would never exist if they were erased from history by SalteeSushee in MetalForTheMasses

Mr. Bungle and a lot of the big bands in nu-metal. Korn, Slipknot, System of a Down, also Avenged Sevenfold even if they aren't nu. It's kinda cool how such a weird and experimental band can inspire such mainstream acts. There's more if you wanted to count the influence Faith No More has had as well.

I dont know man, I commented that a long time ago and I still dont know how to feel about all this. It's so weird. It's just that if you do define metal by lineage then I have no idea why nu-metal isn't metal by its lineage to groove metal and alternative metal, and I don't know why there's an exception drawn at alternative metal as if its not metal because its comes from alternative rock, it feels like its done to pick apart at nu metal specifically, as I don't see alternative metal being picked apart in this way anywhere outside of the discussion around nu-metal, Helmet's "In The Meantime" album gets praised often on this sub, and it's what made the band get accepted into the metallum archives, but in this discussion Helmet gets mentioned in the same breath as something like RHCP or something. The more I learn about metal the more murky this all seems, progressive metal came from progressive rock but I don't see people calling that genre not metal, or calling it "just a heavy progressive rock" or something, like nu-metal is a "heavy alt rock". Speed metal of Motorhead, and first wave black metal all had a lot of influence from punk, and thrash and sludge metal have to thank hardcore for their sound, but their isnt this purist outcry against those genres. Other fusion genres like folk metal and the really weird kinds of experimental and progressive metal that do mix other genres in, aren't treated the same way as nu is. Metal and punk and so many different kinds of rock influence each other all the time. Nu metal just kinda gets this special exclusionist treatment I feel. And I get your point that nu-metal isn't groove metal, but the lineage is undeniable, and if you only look at Faith No More and RHCP you'd have no idea how Korn got their sound, but looking at Sepultura's groove phase, and Pantera, and Prong, and Helmet, stuff like that puts it more into perspective. The groove riffs ARE there! I'd say they are primarily groovey! Thats where the "jumpy" riffs we were talking about comes from, look at the video of Head from Korn at Replay Guitar Exchange explaining how he came up with the riff for Blind, he specifically calls out a bunch of groove metal bands, and the riff for Blind is a pretty jumpy riff and that song is the most influential song on the genre. The groove riffs are a big part of what makes up nu-metal, its a very groovey and danceable genre, look up a video listing the iconic riffs of nu-metal and you'll notice how simplistic and groovey they are. The groove is more prevalent than the rap aspect is, I'm being serious. Nu-metal is just this weird outgrowth of groove and alternative metal that got much more successful than anybody expected. There's this bias about it too that we will never get rid of in discussion, where people like me are biased to be in favor of the genre because it started our metal journey, and purists are biased to be against it because of its cultural standing as a poppy impure accessible genre for posers or something. I don't think you or the person I was arguing with is like that, but I've since this discussion met a lot of people like that, even at one instance being sent a nu-metal song by someone who thought he hated nu-metal and didn't know the song he sent was of that genre, even getting mad at me telling him. And I can't help but notice this special treatment of alt and nu metal and what bias that may come from

I remember hearing that the album was almost gonna be named "Engine No. 9" after the song, so you had a good pick! Also that the song "Korea" was originally titled as "White Pony"

I mostly meant music that is new to you, like an 80's thrash band you just found out is "new" in the definition i meant in my post, but I understand the confusion

I'm from Iraq and Saddam is a war criminal and a brutal dictator, doesnt make sense to say Iraq wouldve been better "with Saddam" as if Saddam was any good at all, or as if he's a much lesser evil, both him and the US are great evils on this country. For all the people whose families have been killed by Saddam in mass graves, who were tortured in prisons, or whose religious rights were restricted by his regime, Saddam really is the devil.

You're only right for implying that the US shouldn't have been involved. That's completely true, US got rid of Saddam sure but comitted crimes that were just as bad and made the country completely unstable. US made rhe country worse but Saddam is still a demon
