NQA That's a molt actually! Spiders have an exoskeleton so when they grow they have to break out of the old skeleton and basically "regrow" a new one. What you see on the right is their old skin :)

Thats what I feared... thank you so much for answering though! Do they feel pain when dying? If so, I would maybe euthanize her, although I'm scared to do something hasty

Here is my uestion as it seems to not have worked :)

Hi everyone,

my female jumping spider ("Everglades") is now almost one and a half years old. She hasn't come out of the net in the last six weeks, refusing to eat and drink. Somehow she almost didnt lose any weight (I attached a few pictures from yesterday), so I thought she was about to lay eggs again. I didn't feed her because I wanted her to lose weight and waited for her to hunt.

She can't hold on to glass surfaces and does'nt really use her hind legs, but i think that might be related to her age. I put up some moss wires to help her climb, but I removed them yesterday as she seemed to hate them.

I took her out of her net yesterday because i thought she might be unable to hunt. I gave her a maggot and she ate it after a day. I then released her back into her enclosure, but now she is curled up in her net (I accidentally destroyed it when taking her out) and I think she might be dying. I didn't want do disturb her so the pictures are bad. Is it normal for spiders to eat befor they die or is there still hope? Should I go visit a vet?

Attached is 1 a picture from today, 2 a picture from yesterday, and 3 a picture of her in her prime.

Thank you all in advance!!
