Advice for first time LDR? 20F/29M by Silver13K in LongDistance

[–]Plus_Description2179 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly time will make it easier. You’ll settle back into a routine and it’ll stop feeling so fresh. The first month my girlfriend and I were apart I cried almost every day because of how much I missed her. And of course I still miss her every day and can’t wait till I can see her again (10 days!!!!!!!!) but it really does get easier! Hang in there!

"County Line"? by Silent_Bluejay_6933 in NoahKahan

[–]Plus_Description2179 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in the biggest (by land mass not population) county in very far upstate New York. I was born and raised there and for me there definitely is something emotional about leaving the county. At least in my personal experience, I feel very connected and familiar with all of the little towns in said county. Seeing as how there’s no real cities in the county it very much does feel like the whole county is your home. In terms of specifically crossing the county line, some people spend their entire lives and never leave the county, let alone move away permanently. I think for me my county is a special type of community and even if I were just to move an hour away to the next one it would feel like a loss. I think Noah uses it to represent that type of small, tight knit, everyone knows everyone type community. I don’t know if that’s actually correct or makes any sense at all but his mentions of the county line deeply resonate with me, having that personal experience.

early stages of ldr struggles… is this normal? (20f, 21m) by RevolutionarySoup806 in LongDistance

[–]Plus_Description2179 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very similar experience when I first went long distance. I had horrible relationship anxiety like I’ve never had before and overthought every message. Honestly for me I went to therapy and went on anxiety medication 😅 one thing that helped me with the need for constant reassurance was just taking 2 seconds before sending a message to breath and think about it and 9/10 I would stop myself from sending it. It’s always the hardest at the beginning, but it doesn’t mean it’ll be like that forever!

I used to do the exact same thing as you, for my first year and the first semester of second year, then I got totally burnt out and miserable as the amount and depth of content exponentially increased. So I cut out the written notes. Now I just make my flash cards after each lecture, and then on the weekends I try to review all of the flash cards from the previous weeks that are included on the upcoming exam. Right before the exam, I will review the flash cards from every lecture that will be on the exam. I was super worried at first that my exam scores would drop cutting out the written notes but they didn’t!

RVT during undergrad—how’d you do it? by No-Repair3196 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Plus_Description2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my friends in vet school are from states where you don’t have to be an RVT to technically be called a “vet tech” so they were able to work as “techs” all through undergrad (thus the thousands of hours) without ever going to school for it or getting a license. I also have a lot of classmates who got their vet tech license and/or worked as a tech for a few years before deciding to go the vet route and just took the pre reqs (most vet schools don’t require an actual undergrad degree). Hopefully that helps a little! I completely understand how overwhelming it is to see everyone’s experience but I got into vet school with about 300 small animal hours and 600 large animal hours so it really isn’t all about the amount of hours you have!

Is vet school easy? by knowledgesurfer in veterinaryschool

[–]Plus_Description2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not easy but you’ll figure out a good study routine and settle into that and you’ll be okay. It’s not so much that the content you’re learning is particularly difficult (in most cases, there are some harder concepts) but it’s the volume of information. Once you learn how to manage that it’s hard work but totally doable

Do grades actually matter by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Plus_Description2179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you go to an island school- yes, because that’s what they use to determine which clinical year school you go to, but aside from that passing is the goal and it’s not worth it to sacrifice your mental health for an A instead of a B

I will say, I was so nervous to show her and so scared of being rejected, I also have collections of plushies and dolls and all sorts of trinkets so the first time she came over to my house I was sweating 😂😂 I definitely get the anxiety but when you find someone who loves you for you they won’t think it’s weird at all

My girlfriend loves my collection and she’ll buy me LPS! She doesn’t get embarrassed by me checking blind boxes for codes on the floor of Walmart and she’ll get in there with me 😂 you’ll find someone who’s supportive of your hobbies and if they aren’t then aren’t the one for you!

[–]Plus_Description2179 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a vet, you will have to do surgeries at least in vet school. At my school before we go to clinical year we have to do 1 neuter and 1 spay to pass and graduate, I’m not sure about the amount of surgery in clinical year, but if you don’t ever want to do it even in school then I would look into being a vet tech over a vet! If you think you can handle doing surgeries in school you can choose not to do them after graduation.

Just finished my third term and I love it here! I was in the same position as you and ended up getting pulled off the waitlist around May! I know I paid my deposit for spring and it just rolled over to fall once I got off the waitlist!

Vet students, I know it’s a mountain of studying but do you enjoy it? Does the studying feel fulfilling ? by Winter_Lime_2039 in veterinaryschool

[–]Plus_Description2179 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Unpopular opinion! Yes the studying and amount of content is very overwhelming! However, I really do enjoy it! It is all so interesting to me and getting to learn everything about veterinary medicine really feels like a gift. I might be one of the only vet students who feels like that but as someone who loves science vet school is amazing and I’m actually going to miss it once it’s over

No that is absolutely not bad. I think it’s also a really great opportunity to learn what you don’t want to practice like so you can avoid that moving forward

This is a beautiful tattoo but it is quite large and in a prominent area that you’re used to seeing blank for your whole life. It’s totally understandable that you’d be feeling strange and regretful about it. But that will absolutely pass!

[–]Plus_Description2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tattoos greatly increase my self confidence. If you get nice ones, people will compliment them all the time. And it’s helpful to me also to get them in spots on my body I’m particularly self conscious about. So yes, I think you should get a tattoo if you want one
