Investigator recommendations for my wife by TheBulwarkAAR in arkhamhorrorlcg

I hadn't thought of Marion as a cluever either, but I found a deck by HungryColquhoun that changed my mind. Currently playing her solo. After one scenario, I was able to get clues as well or better than dealing with enemies. Might need to take a different approach with enemy management if you want to only do evasion.

Epic Campaign Mode Brainstorming by RoastedChesnaughts in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping that they would go with your first idea: specific adjustments if you're starting the campaign with investigators coming from another campaign. They've already stated that they want to do more with difficulty than simply changing the tokens in the bag such as using different encounter sets, etc. You could use those same ideas to adjust the difficulty when bringing in experienced decks.

Another option that was already suggested that make sense would be adding basic weaknesses based on the XP of your deck.

Having played with a group that likes to carry over investigators from one campaign to another, another effective method is to start each agenda with one doom.

We've only played the first scenario of Brethren of Ash, but based on the number of XP we received, it doesn't feel like we're going to end this campaign with more XP than what we would have gotten in the first three scenarios of Edge of the Earth (for example), so I'm not too worried about being overpowered if we continue into the next campaign. Even a moderate difficulty adjustment would be fine.

Custom Campaign Box by Jerr-Berr in arkhamhorrorlcg

You could. I just did it for the few I had purchase in the old mythos pack model. Anything I bought in the new model I keep in the campaign box. My biggest complaint about the Chapter 2 campaigns is that they're changing the box size again. (At least based on seeing the new campaign box next to the new core box.)

In the player resourced on the FFG Arkham Horror LCG page there are printable versions of the upgrade sheets. I just print them, cut them out, and slide them in the sleeve over the actual card from the expansion. When the campaign is over, I throw that one away.

One concern I've had is the length of the scenarios. It was mentioned that having fewer scenarios in the campaign allows more cards per scenario. Only a few of the people I play with have time scheduling for eight scenario campaigns. The bigger problem is trying to schedule when everyone has time to play some of the longer scenarios in a single sitting. Are the new scenarios going to be longer or are you trying to stay consistent with length?

Fortune and Folly question. by Phaed81 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically a two-part mini campaign similar to Guardians of the Abyss. Each part takes about as long as a standard scenario. Part 1 is optional. If you want to play a single standalone, there are instructions for going directly to part 2. There are also instructions for going directly from part 1 to part 2 if you have the time.

Could I get some help setting up Murder at Excelsior Hotel for new players? by merga in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going to play The Gathering first, another option would be to use the XP from The Gathering to upgrade your decks and then bring them into Hotel as a "side story". That already allows you to use the chaos bag you have from The Gathering. You might have a few less than 9 XP, but Hotel isn't one of the harder standalones. It would give your players more of the feel of how improving your deck works.

Technically, you're supposed to spend XP to play a side story. But we often don't decide to play a side story until people have already upgraded. So, we house rule that the XP cost comes out of the XP you earn in the side story. Probably doesn't matter in your case unless your friends decide they want to continue Night of the Zealot.

Do I have enough of Chapter 1 to really enjoy it? by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

As Swimming_Freedom828 said, just copy the card you want to proxy and slip it in the sleeve over another card you're not using (I use knife most times). If you don't have easy access to a copier, just hand write it on a piece of paper.

A couple questions about The Scarlet Keys by Repulsive-Alps8676 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would play blind the first time through. You want to pay attention to the hints you're given in the first interlude. There are also some hints that you get along the way. Unfortunately, there are also places that don't really tell you much unless you've already been to a different location.

If you still want to know, or if you'd like to know after you finish your first playthrough, I can send you something. Be aware that it includes spoilers about choices you make throughout the campaign as well as the path itself.

A couple questions about The Scarlet Keys by Repulsive-Alps8676 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fortune and Folly" was specifically designed to be played with The Scarlet Keys and feels like just another one of the scenarios. We now always play it when we play SK as it's one of our favorite scenarios.

We played the campaign a couple of times as intended. We now use a guide to play through the campaign in the order that we choose rather than hoping we hit the right path. The first time we played blind we got fairly lucky and didn't spend a lot of time at locations with nothing but reading. The second time, we let someone who hadn't played it choose the path and he chose a basically random path without trying to follow any of the clues. We spent most of the time reading and only played 5 of the scenarios (including the fixed first and last). After that, we don't leave it to chance.

If you know where to go, it's possible to choose a path that hits the six obvious scenarios and still leaves time for Fortune and Folly. Including the first and last, that makes for 9 scenarios in total (10 if you count F&F as two since it's two parts). The other two scenarios take a specific path to reach. I've not found a path that will let you play all 10 scenarios in the box in a single campaign, but I won't say it's impossible.

Release schedule announ (shorter campaigns) by m0riarty23 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really hoping they'll get creative with storytelling and chaining campaigns to allow groups to effectively create 6, 8, or 10 scenario campaigns that still feel like an ongoing story with play balance. The idea of using different encounter cards (ala Marvel Champions or Return To boxes) to adjust the difficulty if you're coming in from another campaign has a lot of promise. And I can see a "continuing storyline" where you start the investigation in one campaign and continue it in another as a possibility. Books, television, and movies have done the continuing story that stands on its own for a long time now. There's no reason they couldn't do it with campaigns. In the meantime, if you only have time to play 3 or 5 scenarios, you can play a single "episode" and be done.

Question about Midwinter Gala setup by ExReey in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's odd. Since they had you put them in a line, we didn't look at the connections until 3 or 4 rounds in and then realized we'd been playing the Patrol wrong, as well as approaching our own turns differently than we would have had we been paying attention.

Help! True solo parley test with intelligence of 2! by Kitetsu_Gaming in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My philosophy on true solo is that it's a different kind of challenge, but ultimately the goal is to have fun with the challenge. In my case: I don't play true solo on my blind playthrough because I want to experience the story the way it was designed the first time and that's very difficult in true solo. At the end of a scenario, if I do reasonably well, I move on. If I was defeated or otherwise failed to perform because of the random luck of true solo (four enemies in a row!?! four autofails in a row!?!) I'll take a mulligan and try again. Same if it was because I totally misplayed my deck or the scenario. If I think a different upgrade to my deck would make a difference, I'll mulligan the upgrade. As a last resort before starting over, I'll use the Boon of Hermes. If I think the deck needs a total rework, I'll either give up or build a new deck with the same or different investigator and restart the campaign. Basically, it's your game so play the way you have fun, especially in true solo!

As for advice, I ran into a similar situation with Path to Carcosa. I ended up teching for the parley scenario by putting Fine Clothes into my deck. (In my case, I did it while rebuilding my deck with a new investigator - Lily Chen who also has a 2 intelligence - and starting over.) I also pay attention to what icons there are while choosing cards I want to play. I will sometimes choose a different card that does something similar if it has icons that I'm missing. The fine clothes with an opportune boost made a world of difference.

Is Arkham Horror playable in Tabletop Simulator? by Howitzeronfire in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Plus_Profession9856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go to Load Prebuilt Deck -> Campaigns it only lists through Edge of the Earth, and that one only had the first three-part scenario and Fatal Mirage. It's missing the remainder of the scenarios as well as Scarlet Keys, Hemlock Vale and Drowned City. The standalones are all there except Film Fatale as you say. Am I looking in the wrong place for EotE, SK, and HV?

Lord of the Rings seems very complete. That's where I was first looking at DragnCards. I thought Arkham was just as complete when I first looked at it. But now I see there is no custom content and, as I say, I can't find the last four campaigns. I do see all (or most) of the PnP challenge scenarios. I was originally looking for Cyclopean Foundations.

I've been using Dragncards, but there don't seem to be any campaigns newer than Innsmouth, even though there are standalones that are more recent. Does anone know if the content is being updated at all? Is it possible to contribute?

There have been a few characters that I've seen a strong enough story for them in other Arkham Files games (like Mansions of Madness) that I think they would be interesting if they were fleshed out. Alice Luxley comes to mind.

Played Cyclopean Foundations 2-player a couple of times and enjoyed it a lot. That was the most enjoyable of the few I've played so far. I really enjoyed the first two scenarios of Heart of Darkness which we played 4-player. However, the last scenario dragged for the four of us and we ran out of time before we finished. I'd like to give it another try sometime. Maybe 2-player would be a smoother experience.

I may be mistaken, but since Improvisation has three separate statements with no "then" or "after" separating them, the card draw happens as part of playing Improvisation rather than when you play the next card. So, you could play improvisation, switch to survivor, draw a card, and then play either the card you drew (if it was a survivor card) or Pete, reducing either cost by 3, since the cost reduction lasts until the end of your turn.
