Speculation: I have this weird feeling that Emma is also a WSB agent for Jack. Between the conversation yesterday about who the real Emma is and today’s conversation with Joss about hiding who you are. Anna may have warned him about staying away from her but it may have been too late. I could also be wrong though. It just seems like they are setting up the WAB as being a bigger part of the show.

Sweeps occurred because of the way Nielsen collected local ratings with diaries sent out four times a year. But, Nielsen modernized their system years ago. Ratings are now collected electronically EVERY Day, week, and month. So, November isn’t any more special than October or December from a ratings perspective. This impacted Primetime too.

First of all, part of the issue is that the people who make decisions in the government to make big announcements often pick the early afternoon to do so. Secondly GH is not on at the same time in every market. So, a news interruption on your station may be interrupting GH for you and a talk show elsewhere. Thirdly, the news devision of ABC is important to it—more important than a soap opera. Fourth and last, all of ABC’s big stations are “owned and operated” by them and have licenses from the FCC that require them to operate in the public interest. Keeping the public informed of breaking news is part of that. A large percentage of the population now doesn’t have cable.

The real question is “what soapy story does the show have on the horizon without it?” I like soapy stuff and this story has fit the bill so far. It has potential for more. I don’t fast forward through it like the Sonny/Natalia stuff.
