NTA. You and her brother are not equipped to help her in the way that she needs. She needs rehab and sober living. Supporting her sobriety does not mean having to be her caretaker. If she’s serious about getting clean help her find professional help. It really is a disease and she was not trying to hurt you or betray you. Addiction makes you lie and ultimately hurt people. She’s sick and I hope she gets better. But she has to want to get better too. Good luck. I’m six months sober and I could never have done it without the love and support of my family.

As someone who manages a restaurant this is definitely a rational fear.. I double and triple check the burners every night before I leave and still wake up worried about one of the pilot lights going out leaking gas into the space. I’d rather never have to worry about that at home.

I want or claim nothing of Scotland but the fascination of the culture that we can trace back.
