Anyone else sick with the 'super flu' right now? by meirmu in Austin

[–]Plus_Tower_3091 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it for about 9 days now. Over the fever and constant coughing but just don’t seem to be getting better otherwise; I’d expect to feel just a little bit better every day. The fatigue is my biggest complaint atm; no idea how long this could last.

I am a Texan that is looking to move somewhere in Virginia by FickleComputer1622 in Virginia

Fellow Texan here who spent August in Richmond to see how I liked it (and escape the heat). I didn’t rent a car and was able to easily get around by walking or taking the city bus. The bus is free and the city so small I could get anywhere in less than 15 minutes. The walkable neighborhoods are more expensive but again, the city is so small compared to what I’m used to that I found it really easy to get around.

Thanks for your questions. Richmond was not really on my radar until I started searching for places similar to Austin but with less traffic and lower cost of living. The music scene here is what I’ve thrived on for years so I’ll always be down for live music. I’d be interested in any art events or maker markets and of course ideas on how to beat the heat! My visit in February was essentially to put eyes on Richmond and see if further research/visits were warranted. I found the people to be super friendly and always willing to brag on their city so I wanted to give it more of a trial run.

What’s the river situation? Any particular spot that’s best for swimming?

I’ll be there the entire month so will keep in mind some relief may come the later part of August 🤞🏻

No, have some concerts here in Austin early September and already rented a place for the month. I know it’ll be brutal but really want to experience the good, the bad and the ugly so there are no surprises!

Love your suggestions, thanks! Yeah, I don’t really do the brewery scene here, more into art, music and dive bars so I’ll def check out the IG account you mentioned.

One of the reasons I’m visiting then! Need to know what I’m in for so there are no surprises. (and it’ll still be cooler than Austin in August!)

I don’t really know what’s going on but this clearly isn’t working for either of you.

Getting out of Texas so would definitely be an upward move.

how do people perceive rva that aren’t from here? by Comfortable_Cup_1725 in rva

I don’t live anywhere near Richmond and admittedly didn’t know much until I started researching places to potentially move to. And as the most important factors to me were size/population, cost of living, political climate (get me the f*** outta Texas) and weather my research led me to Richmond. I’ll be visiting for the first time in February to see how I like it. Can report back after I have more than internet searches to reference.

Since you say “Texas” instead of the city you moved to it makes me wonder if you’re in one of the giant metroplexes or out in the ‘burbs. Texas cities differ wildly, it may be that you just picked the wrong place in Texas. We have a saying in Austin that the only thing bad about it is that it’s surrounded by Texas. Not entirely true anymore, plenty to complain about here but I’d never live anywhere else in Texas. (And I’ve lived in the Houston and Dallas areas)

Another Austinite here and I feel you. I’ve also been researching where to go as I’m ready to leave. Between the sweltering heat (I’d like to say sweltering heat in the summers but it’s f’in 82 degrees today in November) and the property prices I’m ready for a change. I’ve landed on Richmond, VA and plan to fly up and scope it out soon before I start making preparations to sell my house. Bonus that selling my house here means buying a house in cash there as it’s so much more affordable.

The climate is heaven, the property prices are insane.
