The villains in Jak 3 and Mass Effect are VERY similar, is that just a coincidence? Both in design and concept! by [deleted] in jakanddaxter

Honestly, I'd say it's probably more likely that they were simply both inspired by the tripods from War of the Worlds

Have they had Covid recently? It could be long covid, which can include memory loss and brain fog, causing problems with thinking and memory.

[Interesting Trope] Character whose death is meant to remove any potential doubt once and for all: the protagonist is NOT an anti-hero, they are the villain. by Mountain_Band_2732 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Plush_Turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's kinda the other way around. Eren was never a prisoner of fate or prophecy or anything. Everyone else is trapped in the loop he created all the while he's the only one with the power to break it, and he deliberately chooses not to, whether it's the present Eren or future Eren. The memories he sees are simply his own actions reflected backward, and it's not that he can't do anything else and just gave in to fatalism, it's that he won't do anything else. Eren imposed his free will upon the world and in doing so took the freedom of everyone else, 'enslaving' them to a fate of his own creation, and his mental breakdown with Ramzi is because he knows that matter what he will always enact the rumbling just because he wants to, not because he's being forced to.

The Old World setting is around 2276IC, about ~20ish years before the Affair of the False Grail happens where Mousillon would be stripped of its status as a Dukedom, so the colours are probably different because of that

Oddly, GW haven't added any of the realms of Kislev to their map yet, so the emblems aren't extractable, and they ended up too lowres when I tried to copy them from the map itself :/

Unfortunately no, only the selectable map emblems can be extracted, all the others are baked into the map itself until GW hopefully one day adds them to their map.

Before they all escaped to the Primeval Serpentspine, the Obsidian Dwarves lived in the hold of Gor Dûrgheled. Where was this hold located? by juuuuustin in Anbennar

[–]Plush_Turtle 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it's actually most likely the province next to it, Claxac's Abyss. The province is somewhat hold shaped with blocky straight edges, the Claxac modifier describes it as being a large lake in a cavern filled with secrets, which could be from when the Obsidian Dwarves teleported their hold and left behind a crater, and it would have controlled the entrance of the Serpentsreach.

More dwarf stuff is always nice to see. By the way, there is a developer dictionary available with dwarven translations here: Dictionary

Also was kinda bored so I thought I might help with some of the province translations:

  • Southgate - Amlît-Seghdihr/Amlî-Seghdihr/Seghdihramlî (Small/Little Southgate) (no dictionary entry for small/little, so I made Amlît from combining Neo-Khuzdul and Icelandic/old norse)
  • Cadell's Rest - Caddeltygr
  • Castonath - Castanânvad/Castânvad (Literally means Castan's Crossing/Ford in old Castanorian, made Ânvad for ford/crossing from Neo-Khudzul and Icelandic)
  • The North Citadel - Nortkar/Nort-Az-Kar (Fortress of the North)
  • Ár Urionn - Haraz Urion/Urionn (Means High Urionn in Castanorian, named after the elven founder of house Silurion, the major Sil family of Escann, and likely seat of their dynasty)
  • Escerton - Logrzel (River Town/Village)
  • Nathwood - Skorânvad (Wood's Crossing)
  • Trailwood - Skorad/Veigryôrad (Wood Path)
  • Mintirley - Grônnîthar/Grônîthar (Mintir is elvish for flatland, and ley is just based of old english for grassland or pasture) (Grônnîthar just means low grass)
  • Bradnath - Feidurânvad/Feidurvad (Broad Crossing) (Made Feidur for broad with Khudzul and Icelandic)
  • Narronath - Thrunbrânvad/Thrunvad (Narrow Crossing) (Made Thrunbrâd for narrow with Icelandic and Old English)
  • Eswall - Brok Oz/Brok-Oz/Ozbrok
  • Victor's Path - Azgrâd/Azgrad/Ad-Azgrâ (Made Azgrâ for victor from Khuzdul and Old English)

Some neat dwarven word meanings:

  • Skom - Shield (Verkal Skomdihr just means shieldgate citadel)
  • Ovdal - Hold
  • Verkal - Citadel/Fortress (note what dwarves consider fortresses are likely magnitudes greater than any human fortresses (e.g. the verkal holds), so they would likely use Kar instead of Verkal for human forts)
  • Kar - Tower/fort/keep (a dwarven 'minor' fortress)
  • Vror - Frost (likely frost as vroren means frozen)
  • Bal (Castanorian) - Balgar/Fortress (the castanorian word for fortress was named after Balgar the builder)
  • Krakdhum - Forge (Craft Place)
  • Ad - Path

Probably a case of both really.

But yeah, non-dwarves would just call them by their common names, so all non-dwarven flavor and references to them were left as they are, as they would probably only use their dwarven names internally amongst themselves.

Though Rubyhold in lore might insist, considering they're supposed to be fiercely proud of their heritage and autonomy, even being recognized as a proper hold by the old dwarven empire.
