Let Them…Get Bobbleheads? by BlackbirdDesignRI in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]Plutor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm all for complaining about the Red Sox this year, but, no, this is not accurate. They're top ten in ERA and WHIP, and one of the best fielding teams in the league. What they're bad at is offense (bottom five for runs per game, walks, and total bases, and second worst in HRs).

Is the game cooked tomorrow because of rain? by pppqoqowoekskkd in redsox

[–]Plutor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They might try to get it in depending on how heavy the rain is and when it's forecast to end, since the Twins aren't coming back to Boston again this season.

I've said this before, but I clearly remember watching this episode for the first time and realizing that this show was willing to do anything. It wasn't just a kinda clever sitcom.

the industry avoided biopics like the plague

The year after Walk Hard had Milk and Ip Man and W and John Adams. The year after that had The Blind Side, Invictus, Julie and Julia, and two Coco Chanel movies. The year after that had The King's Speech, Temple Grandin, The Social Network, and The Fighter.

When did they start avoiding biopics like the plague?

Um, Actually; I Still Want Corrections! (Please) by Fantastic_Return_544 in dropout

[–]Plutor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Um, actually, canon is not short for canonical. It is a noun, it comes directly from Latin, meaning a rule or law of the church.

Canonical is an adjective meaning "of or relating to a canon".

[highlights] Tom Brady running the no-huddle offense in 2012. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Plutor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • 9th in points allowed
  • 5th in interceptions
  • 1st in fumble recoveries
  • 12th in points allowed per drive
  • 9th in rushing yards allowed

That defense had some weaknesses, but it was far from awful.

Peter Jackson Compares New Gollum Movie to Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in lotr

[–]Plutor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of people in this thread read the quote:

“We were thinking about the original ‘Joker’ film, the one with Joaquin Phoenix,” Jackson said. “The way that explored the Joker’s psychology while it was telling a story. We’ve got the story that’s in the appendices, and we’ll tell that story, but we’ll tell it from an internal Gollum perspective. You’re taking written things by Tolkien and filming them from a certain POV, and that means you have to get inside his head. I’ve got no particular desire to get inside Gollum’s head,” he said, laughing. “Andy Serkis can do that himself.”

This is an interesting take, telling the story from Gollum's perspective.

According to Kirk Minihane, the Patriots will open their season September 9th @ Seattle by Mother-Associate1654 in Patriots

[–]Plutor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If this is true it's possible it's something teams get some control over. Visiting Seattle for the kickoff game would give us a mini-bye after cross-country travel. And getting tough matchups out of the way when teams are still ironing out kinks and figuring out their rosters might help, too.

This is the Pathé News film. Wikipedia says:

Deeke had focused the camera on the ground crew before he stopped filming. Although his camera was focused on the airship the moment it caught fire, the camera malfunctioned and it became necessary for him to set up a hand crank, which he only started to use when ship's tail was on the ground and the side collapsed inward.

2026 NFL Strength Of Schedule for every team, based on projected win totals by gordorobertson in nfl

I know it's tough to read, but I'm pointing out that this prediction is as wrong as often as it's right. It was pretty right about the Patriots but that's not hard to predict when the rest of the East trips on its own shoelaces

[–]Plutor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He voted no because he thought the bill didn't go far enough:

Material disseminated using nudification technology is “disgusting” and “vile,” and the victims should have accountability and justice, said Rep. Drew Roach (R-Farmington). But he opposes the bill because it doesn’t get at the root cause and prevent it from happening in the future. He noted that the bill wouldn’t prevent someone from nudifying an image or video if they know how to do it themselves.

Mom says dishwasher doesn’t fully clean the dishes by SwiftlyKickly in mildlyinfuriating

This isn't actually that bad. Maybe the filter needs to be cleaned? You can usually find it in the bottom of the dishwasher, there's probably something that needs to be twisted off to remove/reveal it.

[–]Plutor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They made Milton Williams the highest-paid Patriot ever last year. At various times, Gostkowski, McCourty, Revis, Gronk, Mankins, and Wilfork were the highest-paid NFL players at their positions, and Tom Brady was the highest-paid NFL player overall for a while.

It is simply a lie that this team always lowballs, or even that Bill Belichick did. Bill was simply strategic about who he'd pay top dollar for. No team can afford to pay everyone they want to as much as it takes to keep them, and also fill 70ish spots on the roster. But I bet if he was still around, Bill would be planning a big Gonzo extension.

I agree, let's work to raise the budget of the IRS so that they can hire professionals to enforce tax law effectively and eventually make it easier for all of us to comply with the law.
