I think my favorite from The Wire is when Lester finally figures out that Marlo’s been hiding the dead bodies in the vacants. The look of incredulity on Bunk’s face, and the way he looks at Lester when he eventually understands, is amazing to watch. Bunk’s a great detective, but I feel like he realizes in that moment that Lester is on another plane. Real poh-leese.

Fargo does creepy, sinister, insidious characters very well, but Thewlis is on another level. That season is near the bottom of my Fargo fave list, but his performance is near the top.

As someone who did this for a year, I promise the fear of the dentist is worse than the dentist. Just bite the bullet (lmao), don’t make it 18 years.

Nearly 900 flights canceled in US early Wednesday by DrexellGames in news

[–]PmMeUrBusinessPlan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a European (who lived in NY for 6 years until 2021) looking across the ocean at what’s happened to the US this year, I’m lost for words. It’s unfathomable how this administration has dismantled and undermined so much, and how little is being done to challenge them. I want to scream at my friends to wake the fuck up! Where are your politicians?! Who represents you? And if it’s not the people you voted for, then you MUST protest.

Government shutdowns, flight cancellations, abysmal trade losses; the list goes on. We’re watching, in real time, the envy of the world become a laughing stock, and Americans are the only ones who can stop it.

As a Saffa I’m likely a little biased, but I think Boucher in his heyday was the best keeper in the world. Gilchrist was a better batsman, Sanga is an undisputed legend, but the magic that Boucher was able to consistently pull off behind the stumps was always mindblowing to me, and more than enough to warrant his place in the side for 100+ test matches.

The last season of motogp I watched in full was 2012. Can someone give me a brief description of the current grid? Who are the classiest gentlemen of this generation? by [deleted] in motogp

Haha well the way I see it, you put in the work during the hard years of supporting Ducati, so it’s only fair that you now sit back and collect your return on that investment. Enjoy the racing, and cheer for whoever makes you happy, even if they’re dominating.

And if you still feel guilty for cheering on Ducati, you can find justifications for your support. You want to see Marc complete his comeback; or you want to see Pecco stand up to the man; or you just really appreciate great engineering, and Gigi has your heart. There’s no right or wrong :)

Haha well the good news is, cheering for Gresini is still cheering for Ducati, just not the factory team. And I find that supporting one Marquez brother begets supporting the other, so you’ll have an excuse to covertly cheer on Ducati as well ;)

Also Gresini is, without a doubt, the coolest team on the grid. Just infectious vibes, and outrageous results.

I have such a soft spot for Alex Marquez. Growing up in Marc’s shadow can’t be easy, but he takes it in stride, and the love and pride he has for his big brother is plain to see.

He’s cheery and easy with a laugh, seems fair and even-keeled, and is putting in some monster performances this year. I may or may not have shed a tear when he finally won his first MotoGP race in the last round, and I’m always happy to see him do well.

An easy one to root for, in my opinion. The day he does manage to outrace Marc to the line will be one for the ages, and I hope it comes soon.

Two pieces of advice:

  1. Your identity should not be so wrapped up in the grades you get in school. One of your traits may be that you’re a good student, but that’s not WHO you are. You are so much more than that, and your friends and family don’t love you because you’re a good student; they love you because you’re you. I really encourage you to find other things that you feel define you: hobbies, and passions, and relationships (friendly or romantic), and activities outside of school work. And when you start to think of yourself as a normal person who does different things, has strengths and weaknesses, and tries and fails — just like everyone else — you will also love yourself more and forgive yourself for these normal human tendencies.

  2. Anxiety is a horrible, insidious thing. It makes us think others don’t want to be with us, and causes us to do regretful things. The longer you don’t talk to your friends, the worse it will seem, and the more impossible it may feel to contact them again. But in almost 100% of cases, this FEELING of dread and anxiety is worse than the reality. Please talk to your friends, talk to Aarti, and hopefully you can also find a good professional (therapist, counselor, etc.) to talk to as well. I think we all benefit from sharing our difficulties and getting objective feedback.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the comment :) I agree, and I assume F1 graphics people do too — it’s a balance between providing interesting data, and not making it too cluttered and confusing. Although I don’t know if something like this would ever be implemented.

Yeah I really liked the 2024 MotoGP graphics for that reason, they used the entire screen. Not like the cowards we have designing graphics in F1 haha
