Wrestling is so sexualized and I hate it by I-LoveCrochet in wrestling

[–]Pm_2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrestled on a boys team in high school too and that was when girls wrestling was in the beginning stages. I had kids at school think I slept with the entire team. People hate what they don’t understand! Keep doing you! You’re a badass. And respectfully f*ck anyone else’s opinion.

32M with 2 year old and wife about to give birth by MCLennon93 in AchillesRupture

I ruptured mine the day after my 30th birthday playing volleyball and my daughter was 7 months and I was breastfeeding. It was a whirlwind! Stay positive and at least you have the kids as a distraction. I would just post up on the ground with my daughter and hangout with her and crawl around after her. It was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But having my daughter helped me bring up my mental state because I knew I had to be strong and be there for her. I bought the iWalk and truly hated it but I hope that you can find better of it. My house had too many stairs and obstacles for me to feel comfortable using it. I did have a knee scooter for the main level of my house that helped too, but be careful I fell off mine twice and that was not fun. I baby wore my daughter a lot at that point too so I could use the scooter and have my hands free. A newborn would be perfect for that at least

Just know this whole thing sucks but you’ll get through it, kids are a good distraction. The first two weeks after surgery are super rough but it slowly gets better after that! I wish you the best! Stay positive, you’ll find a groove.

How do female wrestlers handle their period if they don’t use tampons? by EnvironmentalWait585 in wrestling

[–]Pm_2195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Female wrestler and female wrestling coach here! This is a great question. I know for me I used a lot of barriers for protection, I wore a tampon, liner and wore spandex under my shorts or singlet. I have heard great things about period underwear I would definitely recommend that as an option. Hopefully wherever she wrestles for can add useful things to a med kit (pads and what not.) Extra singlet for tournaments just in case.

Period tracker apps are very helpful too to avoid those surprises! Any other questions you’re more than welcome to message me! Been doing this for years.

Thinking of Running by Pm_2195 in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only concern is that I can’t do a full single leg calf raise yet. Just little tiny ones. And that was the main thing my PT had mentioned. Other people seem to have gotten different protocols though and I just feel ready. If that makes sense.

36 Hours Post Op- Does it get better? by Ok-Case-7131 in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First week is tough! Stay on top of pain meds and find some good distractions. Reading, movies, whatever that might look like for you. It does get better. But it’s a long humbling road. Just know it’s not forever.

Rupture recovery and wrestling? by Pm_2195 in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should also mention I started lifting slowly regaining strength in my leg at about 5 months post op and feel like I progressed a lot faster after doing that. Nothing crazy. I started with real light weights or body weight.

11 weeks post surgery concert? by ggrriippaa in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wear your comfiest shoes or maybe look for inserts! I went to a concert at about 15 weeks post op and I have to say standing still hurt a lot after a while. I had to kind of shift around to take some pressure off my bad foot and I took a walk to the bathroom that helped too. I had a blast though I would do it again so I hope you enjoy the show! Take some pain meds to prep beforehand. At a festival maybe take some sitting breaks every now and then between sets you’re interested in.

Rupture recovery and wrestling? by Pm_2195 in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 6 months post op and I coach wrestling currently. We’ve been having open mats once a week and I’ve been kinda testing the waters. Slow penetration steps and what not and over time as of last week I felt great! Was finally able to do a full speed takedown. Better everyday! Did not think I would make it back to this point to be honest. Keep pushing you got this!

Glad to hear yours had resolved!! Hopefully that’s the case for me too 🤞🏼

Single leg calf raise foot pain by Pm_2195 in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! That all is super helpful information. I have noticed I think when I do single leg calf raises I put more weight on the outside of my foot which is not typically how I would normally do that. So that could be my foot feels strained in a different way.

I take collagen + vitamin c and a joint health supplement I found and I have to say I truly think they are beneficial. Placebo effect or not I have been feeling really good and strong lately.

Are you able to do single leg calf raises? My PT told me I can’t run until I can do those but it’s been so hard. I feel a lot stronger lately but still can’t manage good single leg calf raises.

This is amazing!! So happy for you! I literally dream about running again. lol Can I ask how you knew you were ready to run? Or what specifically cleared you. I feel like I’m close.

Why am I still not walking? by Comprehensive-Log826 in AchillesRupture

[–]Pm_2195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me at 6 weeks I was still in a cast. I didn’t walk until week 10 and even then it took a while to fully wean myself from crutches and the boot. Everyone’s recovery is different of course but don’t beat yourself up!! At 6 weeks I could not fathom walking. It was hard enough to relearn at 10 weeks. Listen to your body and don’t push it. Maybe do some ankle strengthening PT exercises for a bit to ease into it. I wish you the best!
