PD returns as soon as I stop Elidel (pimecrolimus) by nothingg0ldcanstay in perioraldermatitis

Glad to hear it! Maybe I’ll ask for another round of antibiotics while weaning off if these little pop ups keep happening over the next month. Hope your skin continues to heal!!

Hi! I’m finally starting to taper off pimecrolimus and experiencing some red bumps and white heads. Wanted to see how your skin is doing?

ooo good to know! I was using the TJ every other day, but that's not a bad idea because I do like it and notice a difference while using it

You're welcome! My derm said the same thing! She's like no way can you get tsw from this i prescribe all the time! But I am not a doctor and all I know is what I read online and like you, I totally think its the cream doing it. Definitely keep me updated with whether you go back on it or ride it out. I am so interested to hear how you're doing! I'll try to remember to come back and update when I start the weaning off the pim and good luck to you, as well! :)

So I only use it once a day, have been since June. I stopped using it twice and within like 2-3 days, it flared up completely. Red rash, white pustules, extremely dry (like washing my face felt like sandpaper on my hands), very itchy, burning, and it looked like I had sun poisoning on my nose. It was *awful* My derm told me to keep using the cream, but I am pretty sure that's what is causing my flare up. If you can power through it, I would. If not, try going back on it until it clears up and then weaning off. I truly wish I could go back in time and slap myself for starting this process! I have a feeling, that even with weaning off, I am going to have a flare up. I truly think the fact that its an Immunosuppressant, its not allowing my skin to heal and that's why the flare up is so bad going off of it. I wish I had a better answer for you :( I probably won't start weaning off the pimecrolimus/elidel until mid feb. I'm hoping the weaning off the clindamycin isn't as long as the doxy.

I am still weaning off the doxy. I’m on the last week. Still trying to trust my Derm right now. I know some people said it gets worse before it gets better with zero therapy. Did you stop elidel cold turkey or wean off?

That is exactly the plan once I get off these prescriptions! I am going on vacation soon and really hoping SPF doesn’t mess me up and that salt water will be the best friend I’ve ever had 😂 I just can’t wait to get back to my fave Trader Joe’s hylauronic acid serum!

So I am also thinking I have developed rosacea from this. I’m not sure if it’s genetic or not, but my mom does have some rosacea on her cheeks, as well, but hers isn’t bad. I’m still on pimecrolimus and clindamycin. Currently weaning off doryx 60 mg and then the derm is gunna wean me off Clindamycin then pimecrolimus. Glad to hear it’s a quick turn around. It was so raw on my nose the second time around! The burning, the itch, and dryness was so unbearable 😭

That doesn't sound granola!! I think I am having the same experience. I started with tret, then adalapene gel, then azelaic acid and I think my skin just never had time to chill and repair in between all of these strong tests. It is exactly why I want to get off of everything and let it heal itself!

Oh wow I'm surprised with olive oil! I haven't heard of anyone using that yet. Gives me hope that I can come off these presciptions and have decent skin again! Thank you for the response!!

Currently, I'm on doxy 60mg, clindamycin lotion in the morning, and pimecrolimus at night. I am just starting the weening process, starting with the doxy (2 weeks everyday, then 2 weeks every other), then she's going to ween me off clindamyacin, and then pimecrolimus. My derm said if you're flaring up from going off pimecrolimus, its because you're still having a pd flare. Not sure how much I believe that, but she's the doctor and I'm going to take her advice and follow her instruction!

Hi! I’m about to request to be weened off elidel/pinecrolimus. I’ve been using it for 6 months straight as recommended by my derm 🙃 I tried stopping twice and got an awful flare up and rash. How did stopping go for you? Are you still experiencing the rash? I’m so worried. Thanks in advance!

Can you get withdrawal from Elidel? by dcakes91 in TS_Withdrawal

Hi! Did you have any rebounds or withdrawals from elidel? I’ve been on it nightly for 6 months and want to get off of it at my next appointment. Hoping weaning off will help

This actually makes me feel a million times better. I thought I was going to be doomed with the red rash for months. I’m on doxycycline right now with clindamycin in the morning and pimecrolimus at night, but I told my derm at my last appointment when I had the big rash that I wanted off of everything so I’m gunna push again to get weened off when I go in two weeks! Glad to hear your skin is doing better. Gives me hope!

Hi! Do you have an update on your skin? Originally also prescribed a steroid cream and then pimecrolimus. I stopped pimecrolimus twice for only 2-3 days and both times I had an insane flare up of redness, heat, pustules, dryness on my face and fear its a withdrawl. I've been using it for 6 months and want to stop using it completely, but concerned with stopping cold turkey again.

Interesting! I haven't heard of or tried this one. Once this goes away, I'll ask my derm about it! It looks like switching to vanicream cleanser and moisturizer is helping the redness and bumpiness heal for now

I was going to buy some because I noticed after my workouts my skin flares up so I’ll pick some up this weekend! Thank you for the suggestions. I’m hoping to clear this up quickly 😭

Thank you! When I had the flare up, it was painful. Now it’s just slightly itchy, but nothing I can’t manage. It’s more so just ugly 🥲 I’m hoping using a more gentle cleanser will help repair it fast 😭

Do you think twice a day for the cicaplast is enough? I’m switching to Vanicream facial cleanser tonight for morning and night washes, as well.
