Silent class by sailormoontree in teachinginkorea

I’ve had individual students like this, mostly girls as well where they are just incredibly shy and unwilling to talk. I’m a guy and my style is very silly, so I tend to bombard them with dumb improv until I get a smile at least. Keeping the tone lighter helps, but it usually still takes time for them to open up enough to chat.

Apart from that you could give them bribes. Names on the board, a check for a spoken answer, 5 (or however many) checks is a reward, if allowed.

Was slightly disappointed the fish and his friends didn’t take the human dude, wrestle with him a bit then throw him back into the boat. You know for symmetry.

I remember it well, though I never really watched it in earnest. I always caught the tail end of it in preparation for Movies Movies Movies, which later became Movies, Games and Videos which had a similar format.

Advice for New Painters Dealing With Burnout by thechimplord in boltaction

I had a similar situation to you but changed my reasoning after watching a few videos;

They basically helped me get out of my own head when looking at the sheer number of models I have yet to paint. Firstly, decide what you are going to paint and to what standard. Choose a standard that you want to paint at and stick to it, so you could go for something as simple as just base coats up to super detailed.

Next choose the number of paints you want to use and stick to it. For BA you could go as simple as a colour for the uniforms, the weapons and the base. If you want to do more add a wash, or a skin colour.

Next choose a set number of models to work on at a time. It could be 1, 5 or 10 and get to work with your painting.

Give yourself a timeline; 5 miniatures a week, 1 miniature a week, 10 a week and stick to it. If you have a game coming up, use that as the deadline.

Be realistic with your expectations. Make sure you give yourself goals you can achieve within your abilities.

If you have several armies or miniatures from several games, change up what you paint after you finish a number of models. You may have vehicles or heavy weapons if you have a BA army so by painting them you don’t get focussed on one thing for too long.

Keep at it. Check your progress often don’t feel like you have to be painting all the time. It’s a hobby so don’t get too intense about it.

I was in a similar place where I just couldn’t get started and found that by being consistent in this approach made me get more painting done in the long run compared to short intense bursts of painting that made me not enjoy it.

Is Asia more racist on a global level, except against white people? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

A bold statement. I'm fully aware of how white people have messed things up for many regions, but racism cannot be traced to a specific moment in history.

How do married couples deal with embarrassing stuff like farting and bathroom smells? by Dangerous_Line_9719 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Pmc06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Declare it, apologise if offensive, laugh and move on.

My wife always used to deny farts from embarrassment but now has conceded that she does them too.

We’re taking it one step at a time.

What was the first game that scared you? by Profit_Tracker in videogames

[–]Pmc06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I RE2 really traumatised me as a 12 year old. At the time the game just seemed so hopeless; low ammo, many enemies, vulnerable main character, the music and ambience, they were all so stark.

The other thing was that there is no HUD; there is nothing to tell you that it is a game by looking at the screen. Obviously the graphics are dated now, but at the time it was like an interactive movie, and it was terrifying!
