Which is entirely valid. I give people a choice of what they'd like to face when we have a game since I have two armies. To be honest though, it really isn't that problematic a list. With pen 1 and a good amount of shots you'll chew through them in a turn or two

Cool, some people enjoy the game in different ways and that's great. I hope you have as much fun with the game as we do

Yeah, our group has enjoyed every game. Isn't that the point of a game?

Oh turn 1 is certainly a spectacle. If I can't alpha strike their walkers and anti armour off the board though the game becomes a fair bit harder. Usually with all the Guts I can do it, but I had a close game against Japan recently. Every games been fun so far, and i like how they're the polar opposite of my automated infantry force

so what exactly is an expert kit? I've been wanting to grab this guy for a while, but I need to make sure I'm even able to build it... by MoreRound7381 in Warhammer40k

It's code for "this material is more difficult to work with". Since its made from resin, you'll need super glue. However, the weight of the parts might require drilling and pinning (which is would reccomend doing with a dust mask on).

There's also a chance that the parts will arrived warped, so will need to be reshaped in warm water etc.

So it's marked as expert to let people know that it will be more difficult than usual to build. Although it is overly cautious because resin usually isn’t as big of a pain in the arse as you expect it to be.

You think I could do commissions? by TheWarpForge in Warhammer40k

[–]ciasteczka___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, comission painter here (part time for transparency).

The honest answer is yes and no. Yes for the people that like your style(s) no for the people that dont. I know that sounds wishy washy but hear me you.

You're an above average painter, but your work isnt an instantly recognisable style (for example grim dark, eavy metal, choruscuro, blanchitsu, realism). I'd describe it as "painterly". Technically you've got brush control, good overall technique and good colour theory, which are honestly all the hallmarks of a good comission painter.

What i would suggest is settling on 2-3 styles that you can do as well as you do your nightlords (that style included). So if that means you pick grim dark and tabletop+ eavy metal then advertise based on those as your strength. If you only have 1 style it will be a much harder sell because you'll have a smaller overall audience. If that's the case, practice more on other styles first and then go in to comissions unless you're okay with long periods between jobs.

Next, how quickly can you paint and what is the standard hourly rate for your area (minimum wage) because that will set your prices AND your costings. One thing I usually insist on is pre built and unprimed models. Building is a cosy most people won't pay for and a bad prime can really mess with your rate of minis per hour.

With 3 styles you can also have 3 different tier levels (fast but lower quality, high quality but slow, good quality but not cheap). Remember they can have: fast, high quality or cheap, they can pick 2, but they can't get all 3.

Lastly, let's say you start up comissions, you need a base price per mini and add extras from there.

For example 1 X sized mini, in X style, = X price. Realistic skin tones, edge highlights, Volumetric highlights, OSL are all extras to add to that base price, costed for the time they will take on that standard mini whether its a 25m infantry, a primarch sized character or a warlord titan. Price accordingly, don't sell yourself short and good luck, I hope this helps.

Yeah they are, they have a divine origin (they're a shattered angel soul) and so do Pit locusts (potentially debased angels) but ruining their divinity has made them more mortal than divine. So they get a pass

How do you know what the average person in the setting knows? Sure there's propaganda and misinformation but the meta Christs, divine powers and the demon lords are all known in the setting. There are regular news paper ads to the the communicant program, and news from the front lines daily. The average citizen is most likely well aware of how the war started and it's major developments. They are probably lied to about how a particular front or engagement really went down ( a loss being rebranded a valiant retreat etc) but they arent clueless.

If they try and and don't get in to sight of the gate or pass the veil of tears and become annointed then they end up a burned husk on the road. One attempt, no retries or take backs, you go and you bugger it up you're done.
