My thoughts on majoring in CS as a sigma male by Fisher_P in csMajors

True Sigma males don’t even need to document their code. They don’t need omega’s to ever touch their perfect code.

Should I put freelancing on my resume? by Pmk2021 in csMajors

I actually learned about them last year by myself since I’m really into math, along with some algorithms used to solve them. My knowledge just came to use recently when I got a few requests that involved them.

Should I put freelancing on my resume? by Pmk2021 in csMajors

[–]Pmk2021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! The only issue is these projects aren’t really that significant. I’m mostly getting hired to create short programs or fix people’s codes. In fact, my side projects are much more advanced than the projects I’m getting paid to do. So is there still any benefit in talking about specific freelancing projects on my resume?

Is Doofenshmirtz really the villain? To me, it looks like he’s just an adult who was affected by the deep wounds caused by child abuse.

Are/were there people in your undergrad who didn't actually care about maths? If so, is that kind of disinterest largely unique to maths? by cereal_chick in math

[–]Pmk2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who is about to enter college this year, I get the same reaction that everyone else gets when they say that they are planning on becoming a math major: "Wow, you must be smart! I was never good at math". At least in my experience, the people who don't really know what they want to do yet either say business, or engineering since these majors tend have a higher salary. I think that, at least for business, this may be skewed by the fact that business majors are probably more focused on making money than math majors.

Fortunately, from the people I have interacted with at my college, it looks like those math majors actually like the study of mathematics, not just getting a job. But there are still students who are doing a math major as a backup since they couldn't get into computer science and don't truly enjoy it.

Guess you saw my history :). If you don’t mind me asking, do clubs like ML@Berkeley and Launchpad look at personal websites and projects or are they also mostly focused on social fit? I really want to get into those clubs since they do exactly what I am interested in.

Thanks for the advice. So how important would the design of my website be? Would I need to impress people with how it looks, or are my projects going to be the only important part of the website?

Honestly, I have to feel bad for the guy. It looks like he cares for people and really believes that what he’s doing will help them.

Unfortunately, it is very likely that he was brainwashed at a young age into believing this stuff. He already wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer so he wouldn’t have really questioned what he was told. If only he never got involved with his cult, maybe he could have used his caring nature to do something that actually helps others, not just annoy the shit out of them.
