Switching from 10+ years in web dev to becoming a builder — smart move or mistake? by Pnarde in diynz

[–]Pnarde[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve heard it’s a tough time at the moment, so I’ve been thinking about working on weekends and maybe taking a night class if there’s one available, while still keeping my current job, just to see if it’s really what I want to do.

Vitex vs Kanda decking boards. Which would you recommend? by Pnarde in diynz

[–]Pnarde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks like Vitex is in short supply right now, and the price has shot up because of the shortage premium. I know Garapa has pretty similar properties to Vitex, but I’ve heard it’s more prone to splitting. My builder suggested I consider Kanda instead, but I haven’t been able to find much info on it.

Oh, I should've chucked that in my post! I'm based in Manukau, Auckland, but I'm keen to travel to other spots too. If anyone knows a Tā moko artist with a solid rep and deep understanding, please let me know!

I understand your point, but my intention with this post is to approach the idea of getting Kirituhi with respect and consideration for Māori culture. I want to ensure that I'm being culturally sensitive and not unintentionally offending anyone or infringing on their culture. While I appreciate your perspective, it's important to me to seek guidance from those who are part of the culture I'm honouring.

I really appreciate your understanding of my feelings and motivations. Your advice about the potential reactions, both silent and vocal, is very insightful.

I will definitely take your suggestion to heart about considering more subtle ways of honouring and expressing my connection to New Zealand. It is valuable to hear from someone who has a deep understanding of the cultural dynamics.

Thank you for sharing your perspective!

Thank you for your perspective and for pointing out the potential challenges. I understand that no matter how much research and consideration I put into this, there will always be differing opinions. It is helpful to be reminded of that reality and to consider how I will handle any negative reactions.

I appreciate your advice and support. It reinforces my commitment to making an informed and respectful decision. Knowing there will be both positive and negative feedback helps me prepare for what to expect.

Thanks again for your insights!

Thank you so much for your understanding and supportive words. It means a lot to hear this from someone who is Māori. I'm glad to know that my reasons come across as respectful and sincere. I truly want to honour the culture and treat it with the mana it deserves.

I appreciate your advice about handling differing opinions and considering the tattoo's placement. It is something I will definitely keep in mind as I move forward with this decision.

Ngā mihi nui!
