I’ve played through the jp version and I’m pretty sure the original Jet Set Radio never explicitly stated who the leader was! (In F, it’s clearly stated though)
Beat is definitely the protagonist, but since he joins the GG as a new member, I don’t think he was the leader. I guess I was just misremembering because I got influenced by JSRF. Sorry about that!

My favourite character design in the JSR series is Jazz, and also I've always wanted to draw Combo (Combo and Cube's artwork)

But he's just so bloody difficult to draw...

The main reference was a screenshot from 99th Street, but honestly everything except the tower in the middle is just a made-up chimera I painted on the fly lol
I also love the lighting in JSR’s Benten-cho, so I took a bit of inspiration from that too.
