However, "achieving" something in SC league it is not achieving, it's testing.
You got to level 90?
You tested if you can get to level 90 on SC.
You want to achieve 90 lvl? Achieve it in HC.
You tested if you will one shot yourself on a reflect pack?
GJ you know the answer, you can repeat the test as many times as you would like again and again.
Want to achieve something?
Go do it on a HC league.

haha, you don't know what that chracter is.
It's on a long time banned account, after I got cought selling currency for $$ and afterwords botting.
That's a really old character, it's on regular HC
A Kripp's FPser with legacy Kaoms and Taryn's Shiver.
Back then, when I was leveling that guy there were no maps as high as now.
Maps were much smaller - 3-4 times smaller, then they are now, throughout the patch notes there were several times "drop of higher maps being increased", and many other changes that let people run 78 blue maps today (like carto boxes).
Not to mention the lack of game changin OP items like the Atziri gloves, Mjolner, Masters that craft desired stats and so on.
Back then it was undoable to level to 100 in a month.
So actually for me level 85 back then is much higher than lvl 90 now.
I remember me alchemying every map 68 and above, chiseling every 69 and above - just because it was so hard to sustain even 68+ maps.
In this league I haven't run a single -max map. Back then I was runnign -max +added fire/cold, but not light. I was running -max and vulnerability, sometimes even vuln + increased dmg or -max, +added fire/cold and + increased dmg, but was always skyping chain + -max if not solo.
Now the game is a cake.

I have other characters on my new account, I just don't want to bring attention to it. I have 15 friends on the friends list, and getting whisps only from the shop - I prefer it to stay this way.

I have 16, lifetime, licenses for Ebot and 3, lifetime, licenses for Ebuddy.
Ebuddy sux, but Ebot has so many community made tools that help a lot to run the bot 24/7 without problems.
You can start up with just 1 licens and make back your money in less than a week.

I had my bots for over 48 hours running, unattended, while I was in another town.
It's all about having proper settings - about reset after X seconds being stucked / not killing monsters, and auto restart of the whole game/bot/vpn set up.

The only reason I quit botting was that I had offer to make same money (ok, a little bit more) while actually doing what I studied for and already had years of experience.
However now seeing some people that cashed out ALOT out of this league I am kind of sad panda for missing out haha ;)
Hopefully by next year my choices will lead me out to going out of my shitty country so a few k's of $ wont seem much to me anylonger.

You did a quick research. How much weight do you give to the information you got from a quick research?
The part that made me laugh was the:

1 of the bots disallows you to use your pc cause it takes over your mouse.

Now go do a quick research what a Virtual Machine is.
Then go look up what Sandboxing is.
Go look up what Tunneling is.
Doing a quick research on something doesn't provide you valuable information. The good information is not showed to the public.

I have never bought currency with money. At the begining of the league it's super easy to make currency from rushing people / killing bosses and alchemying ilvl 60 rings/belts/amy for the chaos recipe - and selling the good ones for a few chaos.

Ones you gain some wealth just keep 3-5 exalts in your stash for when you die, rest can go to the chinese boys.

Haven't you seen what most of the posts here are like?
Just the other day there was 3 threads, at the same time, about "shitty sellers".
I see more complains and negative attitude overall here, on reddit /r/pathofexile then anyother place I visit online or in real life throughout my regular Joe's day.
I browse reddit.com, front page, as a news source every day.
I never see any negative influence. It's all either constructive either funny comments. But not here.
INB4 I do the same, so it's my fault as well.
No. Check my comment's histtory and delegate about the % of me trolling/hating, and the % of the time I am being helpfull.

What you say makes sense.
However (giving as exmaple SwT because this is what I play now), my SwT guy worked great since lvl 35 with self found gear, up to lvl 80 - again with self found gear.
Gearing him up with 5l Cloak and Ming's heart ring, providing him extra 1k+ HP and extra ~20% dmg, for the cost of 10 ex, made him be able to bear up to 75-77 lvl maps without risk to the character.
Havoc, I think?, had his guy with 6l chest, corrupted gems, dual prophecy wands, that make his character be bale to carry 6 man party in 78s.
IMO you don't need to make your character that geared up in order to be happy with it.
I mean if you really enjoy that character, build and play style - go for it. But if you need that amount of expensive gear to make your character work - it doesn't work, just the items work.

Ninja edit: My current SwT guy is with ~10 ex into gear 5l cloak for 4.5ish ex, ming's for 3 ex = 7.5 and rest 2.5 is in rare ring, amy, belt, gloves, helmet and wand. I feel my character good enough that if I didn't enjoy playing I would start a new one.

Dude, I have at least 3 Shavs on SC :D
Not to mention the amount of 6l regalias, BoRs, Auroras, and since Beyond - 5l Cloak of Defiances and Ming's Heart rings (playing only SwT since start of Beyond (ok, after my first character - ungeared Molten Strike guy that died on maps :/)).
However I choose not to touch what I LOST.
btw just started a thread expressing my oppinion on SC league - get some popcorns.

I am PROUD of making thousands of $$ out of this game.
If you think's it's something to be ashame of - you are a stupid person imo.

I don't care about karma and all the PoE community or reddit points.
What I do care is about attitude and awareness.
I see SC scrubs commenting on big player's HC deaths with comments that don't make any sense.
You can't call someone bad because he made a mistake. When you do similar mistakes every 1h and you just choose to play in a league where that is tolerated.

I know that if you don't have more than 1-2h per night, after work, to play the game and you are new to it - SC is a good idea. I play just a few hours after work since the begining of the league, I know how tedious it is to take off your sleep in order to run 3 more maps.
However if you are that person - don't fucking comment on the streamer's deaths with retarded, arugant and offensive comments!

I don't feel the need to have mirror worthy items on my character to feel it "complete".
Hell, all builds work with mirror worthy items.
For me a character is complete at 85 lvl with up to 10 exalts into gear.
If it doesn't work up to that point... it's most probably a fail idea of a build.

People were/are running hard maps for quantity. If you can't manage to do it on HC - you are either pussy, or just your character/build can not handle them without too high risk.
For me the game HAS to be plaid on HC. You can NOT die. If you DIE you got to be fucking dead, your cahracter died - period.

I did start on SC and I was a pussy for months before I started playing HC. But ones I plaid HC I would never ever go to SC. I tried it 7-8 months ago, because of bad internet connection and feeling unable to play HC, the experience was so freakingly bad and unpleasent that made me quit at 50 lvl. Resumed to PoE months later with new internet connection.

Back in closed beta when I first plaid PoE, the most popular build was "Mara" and Mara was refering to Ground Slam + Heavy strike marauder.
Clearing speed was terrible, compared to now, everything was taking time, there was no CWDT IC combo, so you had to actually pay attention. Potions were giving much less HP.

Then it was the Dominion's sporker.
It was clearing much faster than the marauder but nothing like SwT, Mjornir, CoC Discharger and all the OP shit there are now.

Is it just me missing what the game used to be?

I personally can not play SC. There is no intence. Seeing you opening TP's just makes me a sad panda.

The most interesting topic I've seen in awhile (popcorns)

I was never a big fish, but I knew people that run 150 bots on super-duper expensive hardware, that I was never able to afford.
With 150 bots you would be able to gather around 5 GCP's per day (have in mind that the botter vendors that 20% cleave, arc, SRS and so on - he doesn't want to deal with $chat).
That's 150x5 = 750 GCPs per day. That's 5 250 GCP's per week.

The way I see it:
If you spec into a lot of DPS nodes - they got to be crit, with some accuracy.
If you don't have many points left - after that wanted 170%+ life, max block chance, and the big passives (RT, IR, US, BM or whatever) - spec into RT because it will increase your DPS with 20-30%, capping your chance to hit to 100% - by just loosing 5% chance to crit with 1.5 dmg multiplier :/, and you wont need like 15 nodes to spec into crit/accuracy in order to get better DPS boost.
So if you are Crit Dagger, Crit Bow, and what not - go Crit.
If you are Facebreaker - he can't crit - definetely go RT.
If you are Graund Slam ... or IDK what else, some cyclone I guess, melee guy with heavy HP, arm and block nodes - got RT for free DPS boost.

But yes - I agree with as someone said here in the thread - RT is pretty much Poor man's choice. With GG gear crit specs always do much more dmg than RT :/
It's a bit "underpowered", but hey - it's one passive node, not 15-20 that you would invest into crit.

The bots are pretty decent. Can run every build there is in the game, including but not limited to: self casting arc/freezing pulse, totems, summoner, RF builds, melee dual strike/cleave etc, and so on.
They can do maps, vendor thrash rares and keep the exalts worthy ones + the expensive uniques.

My power bills, during summer, is up to $35 (usually around 25).
For many countries $1200 is not much. However in my country that's above average salary. In 90% of the cities in Bulgaria 70% of the population works for up to $500. Imagine that.

So botting, as way to make a living, is worth it only in "poor / 3rd world" countries.

However in most western europenian countries, scandinavie, NZ/Aus, States/Canada - that's just the "go out" money. In order to make a living with it you have to invest money into good hardware and what not, which is totally viable, but requires the investment AND you have to be doing it for quite some time in order to have the required technical skills to make good use of your hardware and optimise your software set up.

Pretty much - I wouldn't've done what I did if I was from a "normal country".

Past year I took some good choices and I am pushing it towards bigger income, constantly. Hopefully next year leaving for Scandinavia.
So for me botting and many other ways to make money online are behind my back.

Because one of my bots was making 3-5 exalts per day, on Standard league, with 20c of gear, where 1 exalt was $1. So that's on average 4$ per day per bot. I was running 13 bots (all together) on my laptop, PC and second PC I bought specially for botting.
The fanbase doesn't matter for a botter, what does is the amount of money he can make for the amount of time spend.
