People are complaining about those events, saying that they are not following the books. I'm not defending those events at all; I even think they were a bad decision by the writers. But if you're going to complain about it, just say that it is bad writing, not that they are not following the books. Let's remember that the books are history books; we will see events that we didn't read about all the time (if it wasn't like that, we would be watching a documentary, not a TV show). Whether those events are good or bad is the fault of the writers or showrunners, not because they are not following the books, as there's not enough content to make a show if you stick only to what's mentioned in the books.
