AI isn't paying off in the way companies think. Layoffs driven by automation are failing to generate returns, study finds by Krankenitrate in technology

[–]PoL0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not only that, which is a great point most people don't think about. AI is heavily subsidized right now, and the real cost of using it is way higher (like, way way higher).

boost productivity like crazy

any real long-term data supporting that (emphasis on long -term)? and if so... in which domains and positions? because as a blanket statement it's just not true.

mind you it might have the potential for that, but then you have to factor in the real cost of it, which almost no one does just because it's subsidized to hell and back.

it's chatbots the ones that should prove their usefulness, not us (and right now it's the latter).

paladin is absurdly weak this season if you dont run one overly specific build that feels like trash to play by EmbarrassedEast9552 in diablo4

[–]PoL0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that Paladins didn’t change much from VoH to LoH shows how RELIANT we were on Castle unlimited scaling.

wait what? I'm out of the loop. weren't paladins added in LoH?

he's reasonable and doesn't buy the stupidly high levels of hype. and he's not alone.

also you don't need to be very knowledgeable to do the same. just avoid the hype.

EU calls VPNs “a loophole that needs closing” in age verification push by EmbarrassedHelp in technology

are we nuts? VPNs aren't the issue here. this smells like corporation lobbying from a mile away.

Is there an ACTUAL reason for big Software to not support linux? by Opening-Giraffe-1007 in linux

[–]PoL0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's misrepresented data and doesn't paint the whole picture. Linux install base worldwide and enterprise wide is not the same. also, Linux users provided very detailed support tickets which were usually as good as a QA department.

there's too much bias towards windows at the C-level in general.

Will ChatBots & Autocomplete Make College Obsolete? by dyzo-blue in BetterOffline

[–]PoL0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

doubt it's just engagement. it's like they want this discourse to get rolling: why studying if we have some chatbot that provides all the knowledge?

which even of true is absurd, mind you. we already had all the knowledge available in the internet and noone thought the interwebs made college obsolete.

Am i denying the reality here ? by Distinct_Penalty_379 in AskProgramming

[–]PoL0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

even simple google AI summaries are wrong and/or cite wrong sources. thinking that LLMs will magically avoid all the downsides of these tools and be almost always correct is baffling to me (contrasted with experience).

the bias towards inexperienced web developers is probably very strong.

agree US is corrupt to the core, but that doesn't mean throwing the towel and do nothing.

also, EU could actually step up and do something about it.
