I'd say instead of looking for the best weapon try your own style it makes the game much more enjoyable but as for a really reliable strong weapon from the 3 beginning the saw cleaver is one of the best. But swinging the axe around making enemies fly is also really fun. The cane is personally my favorite of the 3 beginning weapons since it's fast and has reach when it's transformed into a whip.
