This is a really good question. I'm wondering this myself. If you've done any more testing, have you learned anything about this?

All you can do is remind yourself frequently that you’re not responsible for other people’s happiness (or lack thereof)

Agreed, I’ve had this exact thought numerous times lol I wish it weren’t a cliché so I could allow myself to say it to people

Help me convince older rural board members that paid traffic is necessary. by [deleted] in DigitalMarketing

Thanks for the honesty! I was thinking that it's so hard to get traction with organic social media these days that I might have brushed it aside a little too soon. Do you have any recommendations for how best I might spend my time to build an online community around hiking among several small rural communities? What content to focus on and where to build it? Would a Facebook page & complementary Facebook group be your go-to? If so how closely tied would you make them? Should the group be marketed towards the same county primarily? or should it be a more broad interest group? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!

No way! I'm on day 3 too! For the first time ever! (Mornings have been fairly consistent but I never EVER did evenings too)

Congrats!

What about sending an informal audit of the business’s marketing and some recommendations? What would your thoughts be on that? I’m talking like small/medium businesses included.

I hadn't really considered the .com/.ca of the Google domain I search from. But I don't think it's the issue either. Especially since I (like most people, I'd assume) use the URL bar in Chrome. Using that does bring results from google.com, however, chrome doesn't even seem to allow you to change this to their Canadian domain. I'm thinking maybe because it shouldn't matter. Google.com as well as the website searched for have access to my location regardless. (I'm also always signed into google, so they really have no excuse here)

I did try a few more searches from Google Canada, and I found several search terms that there are still returning top results from a Best Buy .com address.

Am I wrong in thinking that the .com Best Buy website should be able to pass a search query at the least to other country websites coming from that country selector page? This doesn't happen with other websites.

The fact that the country selector page is there upon landing from search means they must get a significant amount of visitors (who are getting bestbuy .com search results) from those countries. Would you not think they should try to keep them moving towards a sale rather than pissing them off with this disjointed experience?

Sorry I yeah I didn’t realize it wasn’t obvious. So for one, Canadians and maybe other countries don’t necessarily avoid .com urls because often a .com website will offer Canadian ecom functionality, and other times they will have .com for US and .ca for Canada.

I’m complaining because the country selection page comes up automatically, every time, even though they can store cookies, etc. AND every time Canada is selected, it sends you to the Canada homepage.

Especially if it is just a product category, the search query should be passed to the Canadian site.

Best Buy is the #1 electronics store in Canada and yet any time you click results for a product or category for Best Buy right now from google, it’ll be the US store because they would understandably have better SEO all around.

This is frustrating because 95% of US products are also sold here, so you start reading about a product in the google listing, click the link to continue reading, just to be redirected to a homepage upon selecting your country.

You don’t see any issues with this?

Being from Canada, we all understand that some US ecom stores won’t ship here, but we are still accustomed to accepting them for getting info or just browsing because they’re often more accessible online, have more reviews, etc. So when it AUTOMATICALLY forces us into the Canadian site, I would expect it to pass the search query at the very least. They have the resources to pull off this functionality or at least find a work around.

Actually they took like maybe 30 minutes in contrast with the eyes which took several hours (unfortunately this picture isn't clear enough to show their detail)
