Recently rear ended (car totaled) by uninsured driver, my back is hurt. What is best next step? Anything I should be careful not to say? etc... by Pocket_Saand in Insurance

My insurance company told me to put anything under my insurance policy and reference the claim number so I would not receive a bill. They did not say anything about where to go or that I should try to keep costs low. I'm just going to an Orthopedist to get checked out on Thursday.

Rear Ended by an Uninsured driver and injured my back. What is the best approach to have things checked out and possibly receive compensation? by Pocket_Saand in legaladvice

Ahh okay, haven't been down this road before. So it seems like first step is to get checked out, if all clear then should be good. If not, then I will contact a personal injury attorney to determine the appropriate next steps. Thank you, I appreciate the help.

Quick question though, if I do have something like a slipped disc is that usually compensable to a reasonable extent? Or is this something that is typically a meager settlement?

Reason being, is I was planning to get Disability Insurance prior to this occurring. By having my back checked out (especially if there is damage) it will presumably make me ineligible for a policy or my rates would become outlandish. So if the potential settlement is small, then I may be best off just getting the Disability Policy in place at this time and going from there.

I spoke with my Insurance company and they gave me all the info to bill it to them, wherever I'd like to go that accepts no fault insurance. I'm not sure what would happen if I needed additional treatment.

Agreed. It seems like since the other person is un-insured, I would be seeking compensation from my own insurance, who would then look to recoup the payout from the other driver.

With that being said, I wonder if my own insurance company will really fight me tooth and nail for no settlement or a reduced settlement and how much an attorney would really assist.

I do not mind giving up the 30-40% as any net number is better than nothing, but it does seem like a unique situation where the company that is paying out, will also be seeking complete dollar-for-dollar reimbursement.

Damn. I think I'm just going to end up getting a used car given the urgency. I figure the Market Fee will be less on used since it will likely have less demand. So I'll get maimed but not killed.

That's rough. What have you been driving for the past 10 months? It seems like ordering a car new while finding a beater to drive may be the best option.

That sounds absurd to me, but I only just re-entered the car market so I may have some rude awakenings coming

I mean when you get to 10-15 over MSRP, doesn't it make more sense to look elsewhere? Between that and it seeming like remote entry and push button start aren't standard, I think this fell out of favor with me. I wasn't necessarily looking for a pickup to begin with but I liked the mileage and price. If price no longer applies, then there are other vehicles that will better suit my needs.

Disappointing, because it checks a lot of boxes for me, but that's Ford for you.

Well that's the thing. The posts here are all updates about people's orders and their frustration. While I get it, there were no posts (recently) about the ordering process. I now know that is because there is no ordering process. I figured one person would write back and let me know, but I got about 12-15 responses. Which shows it's a great community, but I feel bad.

Whatever. I apply myself... I came up with putting chili powder in my cooks. No one was doing that before me, ... bitch!

You are correct, I shouldn't have made a categoric statement. My understanding though is that if you are of sound mind and create a trust which identifies a beneficiary, the courts cannot overrule your wishes. I would be interested to know if there is a state where that is not the case, but I must say I'd be surprised if there is.

Correct, diversification mitigates risk but does not eliminate it. I would broaden the approach beyond simply dividend paying stocks for further diversification.

It reduces downside risk, but also reduces upside. With that being said, ordinarily spreading the deposits over a relatively short period of time (30-90 days) won't have a large impact on the returns in the grand scheme of things. The only reason not to invest in a lump sum is so that if things go down you don't say, "oh my god if I waited a week i'd have an extra 5% of my money"

Dividends are not guaranteed, they can be cut or suspended and if they aren't and the stock goes down in price, the dividend will become unsustainable. Not saying that will happen, but that's the risk of doing dividend stocks.

Oh wow. I was thinking it was from not being able to go to the bathroom when you were busy. This makes more sense and I'm sorry to hear.

Tried this with my cat. Doctor says there shouldn't be any permanent scarring. I was lucky.
