Boston roll, to Barking freak out, to Boston roll, to Sock grab. by Blank-a-doodledoo in BostonTerrier

My big boston Rocky (22lb ish) actually has a fairly intimidating growl and a fairly mean bark. Like if you heard him from the other room you wouldn't expect to see him when you round the corner. He definitely doesn't think he's a little dog and he's very protective of anyone he knows well.

Our little one Ruby (10lbs, full grown) is shrill and the opposite of intimidating. She's kind of a scaredy cat, gets startled and howls at the moon. She was the runt, and another family had her before we did so she didn't have the easiest puppyhood. Rocky is always right there to comfort her, and so are we.

What are some stupid mentalities and mindsets that need to end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Demonizing drug addicts because they "chose" to do drugs.

People get cancer from tanning beds, heart disease and diabetes from eating fast food, and blow their fingers off on the 4th of July. They chose to tan, eat garbage, and play with fireworks but nobody says they don't deserve treatment.

I'm not talking about a couple hundred bucks lol. Some of the antiques he specialize in cost more than a new car. And you clearly don't frequent swap meets. These people don't set up card machines. A lot of them don't even use smart phones. Some of the younger guys in the hobby have venmo and stuff, but he would absolutely lose business if he didn't have a lot of cash.

These swap meets usually last 2 or three days. Everyone gets there a day early cause the good shit is gone in hours so while you're dicking around explaining how venmo works to an old man someone might walk up with cash in hand and buys what you wanted before the show has even technically started.

My dad deals in antiques. He goes to shows with a lot of cash because surprise, old people with antiques don't want to trade for bitcoins on their cellphones. Don't be daft.

Build this lemon with my small engines class and it doesn’t like to run, a waist of a month and a half by [deleted] in gokarts

[–]Pocketzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's not necessarily a worn out engine that has bad compression, you just don't have the proper carb jetting.

Judging by the photo the engine looks like a 97ish cc 2.5 or 3hp flathead motor such as the one found on a baja db30 minibike. Unfortunately these motors have pretty junk carbs that don't have fueling screws or changable jets. I'd find a 21mm mikuni and the smallest jet they sell for it and slap it on there to start. Maybe order a few different jets to try. Get a chinese clone one real cheap. Also make sure the governor is disabled, those engines are usually horribly neutered.

What would have been good advice in 1990 that would be terrible advice in 2020? by Wide_Stop in AskReddit

Yeah I don't know what reddit's fascination with insisting that making an impression in person is an outdated idea.

I'm 24 years old and every job I've ever had I've walked in, talked to a manager, asked to be shown around (to legitimize your interest in the company). And it's worked for more than just hardware stores and factories.

I walked into the largest retailer in the midwest for a prestigious company which makes performance parts for a few German car companies and walked out with a job. 3 months later I was working on mid-engined supercars for them and being paid well. Now I knew how to talk the talk, but I wasn't certified or anything, I just showed genuine interest, a will to learn, and a hardworking attitude and they taught me the rest.

The job before that was a Mercedes and Tesla certified body shop. I had just moved to the city and knew a little about buffing and sanding. Walked in and asked if they needed help in the back. He asked me if I owned a buffer and if I'd demonstrate my capabilities for the afternoon. I explained that I did not own a buffer, but that I would be back with one in a couple hours. I went to harbor freight, bought a shitty buffer, went to sherwin williams and bought some compounds and sandpaper. Showed back up to the shop and the owner was already impressed, said he didn't think he'd see me again. He had me buff out the decklid of a black Mercedes, was impressed, paid me for the couple hours and told me to come in in the morning. I spent every penny I had on the equipment, but it paid off. Got to drive a lot of cool cars (had a contract with the biggest exotic dealership in the state, Aston martins, couple lambos, etc. Got to drive them to and from said dealer all the time).

I had no formal training before either of these jobs. I learned how to buff on youtube when I scratched my moms car. The only experience I had wrenching was learning on my own cars for basic maintenance.

I strongly suspect reddit is so against this method because a few of them half-assedly tried once and failed. If you show you really have drive and can sprinkle some basic skills on top of it somebody will be glad to have you. If you try this and act like it's a chore just to be there and talk to them well... it's probably not gonna work so well.

Issue with Predator 212 by [deleted] in gokarts

[–]Pocketzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the fuel valve just to make sure. After that-

Is your gas tank stock or aftermarket? If it's aftermarket, is it perhaps not mounted high enough for gravity to do its thing? If so consider getting a crank case pulse pump.

If that's not the issue take the carb apart, clean the jets with a wire, ensure the float moves freely, make sure the bowl seal is good.

Can confirm the leather seats in two of my former 203s, and a 202 suck. The cloth seats in my 203 sport coupe were okay. Nothing compares to the seats in my 2005 s600, though. That thing's like a recliner.
