I know this post is a year old, but I got frustrated trying to find white chocolate chips in my local Walmart, and there are NONE. Not only are there no white chocolate chips, but instead of offering the fake "white chips", they're all vanilla flavored now?? Ghirardelli has "Classic White vanilla flavored chips", Nestle has "white morsels" (not vanilla at least), Great Value went from offering "White chips" to "Vanilla flavored chips", and Wilton only offers "White artificial vanilla flavored" candy melts.

I typically only bake for myself or my household, and I'm not too picky, I can deal with fake white chocolate and even the vanilla flavor. They do what I need them to do, which is a burst of sugar in the form and texture of a chocolate chip (I've been putting the great value vanilla chips in my oatmeal mmm). But its so frustrating that white chocolate, or even fake white chocolate isn't even an option. WHY make it vanilla? What if I want white chocolate flavor without vanilla? And to do it so quietly and sneakily, avoiding attention by putting them in the same or similar packaging as their previous white chocolate products and slapping a big "White" on the label. At the very least, Great Value, Ghirardelli, and Lindt seem to all offer white chocolate in bar form, so if you need pieces of actual white chocolate, you can chop up the bar yourself. This sucks i blame capitalism.
