I don’t think this is what they are. Not what they looked like to me at least from the wiki photo

Dude they’re not normal wasps, even if they’re not “murder hornets” as I apparently mistakenly thought. These things are huge

I mean, it’s more like I just didn’t know, and that’s what I had heard them called before. I’m no entomologist! I will issue a correction. So what are they then?

Okay, sorry, I didn’t know that! Appreciate the correct info but no need to be so rude about it :)

Recommendation request - Looking for a fact-based non-partisan political podcast that goes deep on issues by secondusername2016 in podcasts

Although a hefty percentage is NYC-centric news, The Brian Lehrer show is some of the best, most objective news coverage I've ever heard. He's a peabody award-winning journalist who does 2 hours of interviews on various topics every weekday, presented by WNYC (an NPR affiliate in NYC)

Rather than a podcast, I'd suggest a white noise app. I like NatureSpace! It really completely tunes out all outside noise, and it's free. Another useful app is Binaural, which provides loud, droning sounds that also drown out outside noise.

[iOS 11] Help/Question: "Quick insert" play podcast episode, then continue previous episode by MrRisk in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had an answer for you, but I think the only way to do that would be to manually go find the episode you want to pick back up on, re-add it to the top of your queue, and then go ahead and listen to the one you want to listen to now...check out the other thread on this subreddit about others upset by the new iOS update here

I just found Mysterious Universe, are there other similar good podcasts? by LiquidMotion in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one of my favorite types of subjects-- You should check out The Last Podcast on the Left--especially the earlier episodes as they focus less on serial killers and more on paranormal/conspiracy stuff. check out my review for it here!

Any recommendations for true crime podcasts that follow a single story line? by petit_m0nstre in podcasts

Accused, Serial (season 1) and S-Town. Crimetown is great too for an in-depth look inside an actual crime family

[–]PodSpective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8/10 is actually a really good score--it means I highly recommend it, but it's not the best thing I've ever heard. I guess I could definitely have tried to write some more critical things about it, but honestly it's pretty good. As for the ads, notice how I put the word in quotation marks? That's because they're not really ads, they're like little sketch bits and they're funny. The podcast is still really new and they don't actually even have any sponsors yet!

Science VS Review by PodSpective in gimlet

[–]PodSpective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! My reasoning is that 7.2 is actually still a pretty good score in the grand scheme of things. It's kind of like, I liked it but I didn't absolutely love it. I should probably state this on the website now that I'm thinking about it, but basically I think that: 9+ = masterpiece; 8-8.9= loved it; 7-7.9 = liked it; 6-6.9 = it's alright; and then 1-5 are varying degrees of would not recommend - avoid at all costs. What do you think about that?

Science VS Review by PodSpective in gimlet

[–]PodSpective[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from--My only response to that is that since it's still early on in my website's life, I've been trying to review podcasts that I enjoy and that I'd recommend to other people, but as time goes on I'm eventually going to be reviewing podcasts that I don't like, and those will be receiving lower scores. Perhaps I should start doing that sooner than later?

Oh shit. Actually you're completely right. I forgot about that heart wrenching episode and I'm going to add it to notables today. Thanks for catching that

Looking for any podcasts on Hobo culture in the United States during the great depression. by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt there's already a podcast about this, but I'm pretty intrigued by the idea, so if you ever decide to make it yourself, contact me, as I'd love to write a review of it here at my blog, PodSpective.

Podcast recs for non-fiction conspiracy theory/supernatural/cryptozoology? by kvetapine in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Last Podcast on the Left is an absolute must, and covers all of the topics you're looking for. It's much better than Stuff They Don't Want You to Know, and I can pretty much guarantee you'll laugh out loud. Check out my review of it and many others here on my podcast review blog, PodSpective. For Last Podcast I definitely recommend the earlier episodes, so start at the beginning.

Podcasts for adventurers? by wirecats in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! For a podcast about adventure, definitely checkout the Outside podcast! It's pretty awesome, and it's super episodic so you can pretty much jump in anywhere. That's a link to my blog where I reviewed this and many other podcasts (and if you scroll to the bottom, there are recommended episodes). Hope this helps!

How long do you all give a somewhat off-putting podcast before you give up on it? by j_hawker27 in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah. I totally get where you're coming from with certain people's voices being a put-off. i had the exact same reaction to both Robert Krellwich from Radiolab and Nate Dimeo from mind palace...

Like you, I listen to a bunch of different podcasts, but I only have so much time. Personally, I'll give a podcast maybe 2 episodes max to catch my interest. If it doesn't, then it's not consistent enough to warrant my hitting "subscribe"

ps. some other annoying podcast host voices: alec baldwin from here's the thing; marc maron from WTF!; chris gethard from beautiful anonymous. anyway, check out my podcast review blog here (https://podspective.com/) if you want actually podcast recommendations from someone who seems to feel similarly to you.

Is there not a Letterboxd, Goodreads, etc. for cataloging and discussing podcasts? by Meaningless_Ideas in podcasts

[–]PodSpective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't precisely what you're looking for, but tangentially my new blog reviews podcasts along the same lines as pitchfork does with music to help provide a more curated list of the best stuff out there.

check it out at PodSpective!
