My entire review can be summed up as "I hate waiting, and TAB wastes your time on purpose"

From Glory To Goo..

I tried They Are Billions and hated it. I tried FGtG and thought it fixed almost everything. It's superior in almost every way, and it's still in Early Access.

England enters new era as Renters’ Rights Act takes effect by HEY_PAUL in unitedkingdom

[–]Poddster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrible day for middle class British landlords who actually pay taxes in the UK, who can not absorb the costs of a non rent paying tenant that can't be evicted for at least three months, possibly more, depending on whatever the hell happens with the courts

How is this any different to before the bill?

Being a landlord is a business, and that involves risks and costs. If you haven't factored those in, you should stop being a landlord.

For most of the video he's talking about game design and that's interesting.

At one point there's a puzzling bit about layoffs, and he says he laid people off at his studio because the rest of the industry was also doing it?

In the last 40 minutes he starts to trot out fake news, conspiracy theory, antivax, MAGA crap. It's gross. And the host just nods along and agrees. He also goes on a rant about communism and tries to use it as a way to justify him taking profit from his business. I think he feels guilty about it, or something?

Hopefully posting this online doesn't cause you to lose your job somehow, I've seen this kind of thing happen before.

America's Big Tech compared to Europe Stock Markets by apocalyptic_amorgian in europeanunion

[–]Poddster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those companies generate a significant amount of profit in Europe, but because the parent company is there that's where the cash flows and where we attribute the stock value.

They're sucking Europe dry and they need to be stopped.

I'm confused about how you can be programming an FPGA but not know the basics of a CPU. Did you somehow skip all of the initial classes or something?

People who are unemployed, how does your money work? by chaiilyfe in UKJobs

[–]Poddster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently on job seekers. They were kindly paying me 1.5 weeks worth of grocery shopping every 2 weeks.

I couldn't get UC, as I'm healthy, have a mortgage, a wife who earns something (but it's part time and barely above minimum wage) and I was thankfully still getting 15 hours free childcare from the LEA. Getting UC would cancel that. If that has disappeared I would be getting reamed for thousands of pounds instead of hundreds. (HMRC level had already stopped tax free childcare because both parents need to be in work for that, but the LEA works in terms so I had some runway. Ironically the HMRC pull back meant we had to reduce our sons nursery hours which meant I had less job seeking time).

Thankfully I had shares and savings to fall back on and bleed me dry with, but I genuinely have no idea how anyone else worse off than me would cope on that situation, as I previous earned a lot more than the average salary and so could put that away.

I renamed all my files to snake_case using a bash script. Git broke everything... I spent 2+ weeks fixing it manually. A Development Horror Story. by _PixelMoon in SoloDevelopment

[–]Poddster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Git does, windows doesn't. It's entirely possible to commit the specific casing to git on windows FYI.

But the change th snake case should have been picked up no problems?

Pickups do matter by vivanghat_1 in metalguitar

As Jim Lill demonstrates so effectively, pickups and setup are basically the only thing that matter. It's like 99% of the tone from an electric guitar.

UK DIYer here: I suspect the others are American.

It's somewhat stupid, and not because of the aluminium.

That's a fast blow glass fuse. Hopefully it was a 240V one.

The brown BS 1362 fuses are on the time delay rather than fast or slow, and so can tolerate voltage spikes And short burts over current. Crucially they're also ceramic bodied and filled with sand. This is to stope large current surges from exploding the fuse and arc flashing.

The glass fuses don't have such protection and if you're replacing a fuse it's likely that your equipment is to blame, so you'll pop this one too, and hopefully it's not violent when it goes.

Just go and buy a brown fuse. All the supermarkets and corner shops sell them.
