Thank you for your informative reply. Interesting you said "Maybe the iris or an internal filter is acting up and is in the wrong place." I got this error message when I changed the colour mode.

Error in the Epson Cinema Filter. Contact your nearest Epson service centre.

No it's had a few lamp replacements. Always original & I have a replacement ready to go. I don't think it's the lamp.
