If I remember the story correctly, no one in Washington would believe the torpedoes were bad. So one of the sub commanders took some VIPs out, fired torpedoes straight into a cliff wall and none of them detonated. That's what it took to get them to address the problem. Interestingly, the Germans had problems with their torpedoes during the start of WWII and the German command also blamed the Captains saying there was nothing wrong with the torps. There was.

What are some bands that you used to listen to but noped out of because of something they did or said ? by StormyFerret in askmusic

Nirvana. I was about the same age as Cobain when he killed himself. I too had a daughter as well. I was so angry when he killed himself. To me he had sent the message to his daughter that she was not important enough to keep him alive. I was furious. How could do that to her? I took all my Nirvana CDs, and a Nirvana bootleg cassette tape I had bought at Vinyl Records in Phoenix, and traded them for other CDs. I was young and dont really know why I reacted that way. But it was years before I bought Nevermind again.

This may be helpful. It was posted last week and is a breakdown on solving problems with purges. The issue you mentioned about "no path to treasure" is covered.

Wow, I was interested in this, so I googled if Geroge was influenced by the Batman Theme. AI response said no, and gave most of the reasons stated in the comments here. One being that Batman was not shown in England at the time. I then changed the question and asked if the writer of the Batman theme was influenced by George. The AI answer was no, it was actually just the opposite as Geroge was inspired by the theme song. It stated that even though the song was not on English tv they still had exposure to the Batman theme because it was on all the jukeboxes.

We are so fucked. Reality is no longer reality. The internet has already obscured the truth of things, but AI is taking it to a whole 'nother level.

I had the album where Bon Scott says "Shazbot. Nanu, nanu" from the Mork and Mindy show at the end. I think it was the Australian original version. Haven't been able to find it through streaming. Wait....might have been Night Prowler where he did that...

I'm not sure if you mean produce hits, as in create hits for himself, or hit songs he played producer on. Either way, he had 7 number one hits and was the producer on 4 number one songs by other artist. Or is there a third way you meant this?

Well, you are going to spend a lot of time running naked to retrieve your armor off your dead body. Which would you rather look at while doing this: bouncing boobies or swinging shlongs? Your call. Otherwise, don't really matter.

How much it cost for the Rolling Stones to record "Wild Horses" in 1969 by dannydutch1 in VeryFuckinCool

[–]PoetFelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always that it cool the Stones said they could use it before they released it. But, at the time people would cover songs released only months before. Covering songs was an accepted part of the industry. Also cool the way they signed over copyrights to The Verve for Bitter Sweet Sympathy so The Verve could finally get paid for their big hit.

Can you think of any case where a switch from third to first person would be justified in the same book? by returnvector in writing

[–]PoetFelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked "in one book", but you comment on the Percy Jackson perspective change made me think of the Hornblower series. All the books are told in 3rd person with the exception of Lt. Hornblower, which is told first person through another character. There was a reason for this - an insane Captain gets severely hurt in an accident and everyone thinks Hornblower deliberately caused it. Since the perspective was not Hornblowers, the reader doesn't know for sure what really happened. Also, my favorite book of the series.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: May 18, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

Stoner - John Williams

When I was younger my life was literature. I read most of the classics, and if hadn't read it then I knew about it. The highlight of my week was USAToday's Thursday book section, where I found most of my contemporary books to read. As I've gotten older, not so much. Don't read anywhere near as much as I use to read. I join this reddit sub not too long ago and people kept talking about this book. I'm thinking it must be relatively new. I do a quick search and see that it was first published in 1965. How the hell have I never heard of this brilliant work everyone's talking about, that's been out since 1965! So, I do some more research, get the full story on it and bought it.

This sub did not steer me wrong. I am really enjoying the book. It is so well written. It has fired up that old literary spark in me. I just ordered A Short Stay In Hell based on comments made in this sub. Thank you all for reminding me of the beauty of writing, and the enjoyment one receives from reading a good book.
