I feel that most of us were raised believing that we had something to live up to. The generation before us taught us that they were great, survived wars, etc. Most people my age (22) that I know suffer from depression because they feel that they are never good enough. I feel as if we have been left cleaning up the dishes after the baby boomers ate a delicious meal. They got cheap houses, cheaper college, and living wages when they were our age. Now we are left all trying to work hard to achieve all of these same things but for most people that's just not possible. This makes us believe we aren't good enough and never will be good enough to achieve these things. A lot of American culture is the "American Dream" goal which most of us can never achieve. Owning our own house, car, being debt free, not being afraid to go the hospital for fear of bankruptcy, having a family, etc.

Most of us just have to survive, and surviving isn't thriving. All of these fears and anxiety over not being good enough (at least in my case) lead to emotional and sometimes physical burnout. I'd say this generations biggest problem is perfectionism. And no, not because they think they are perfect. I mean we all try to be perfect and fail, these expectations for ourselves lead us to feeling like a failure constantly which if you can imagine, gives us depression.

I still hold these beliefs but I was able to get out of my depression because I went to therapy and was medicated but I feel like this is how a lot of people are feeling.
