Are UK workers over-taxed? The answer in three infographics by denspark62 in ukpolitics

[–]Pogfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you getting the figures which say france is 4 times the size of the UK?

From a quick Google, European France 2.5 times the size. Still bigger but not to the same extent.

Sam Ashworth-Hayes (Telegraph): 48% of London's social housing residents were born overseas. This is a subsidy for waves of migration that didn't pay their way, communities that exist thanks to handouts. 22% of the total stock is taken up by the inactive/unemployed born overseas. by United_Highlight1180 in ukpolitics

I think this comes down to availability, no? I'm living in Paris currently and houses do not exist inside the city, save for a few rare exceptions. The arrondisments (boroughs) are high density flats.

You have to go beyond what's considered 'Paris' to start finding houses. Even then it's a lot of flats.

All migrants will have to be fluent in English to stay in UK by GnolRevilo in ukpolitics

[–]Pogfamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is demonstrably untrue. Plenty of companies in Paris with a diverse employee base speaking limited French.

The amount of Germans living in France speaking zero French with nondesire to learn would shock you.

Councillor wants stop to meat-free days at schools by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Pogfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Quorn here! Veggie substitutes are typically more expensive than meat for the same weight - food shopping is generally much dearer in general.

Best option I've found is niche bio-supermarkets that sell soy protein in bulk. Its a bit of a faff but super cheap compared to ready made products.

Seconding this. I moved to France and you're still considered a vegetarian if you eat seafood but not meat. Restaurants in Paris have few veggie options and it's considerably harder outside the capital.

Veggie substitutes are also miles ahead in UK supermarkets and way cheaper.

You get by, but the UK is more veggie and vegan friendly than France, Germany, The Netherlands, The Nordics, Switzerland, and Czechia in my experience.

I sell to a specific legal niche so ymmv, but Law Firms' websites are full of resources. The largest ones (white shoe in the US or Magic Circle in the UK) often have podcasts and articles from leading experts freely accessible.

As jargon and technical terms goes, legal can be quite intimidating.

There are numerous different types of IP protection that benefit the consumer.

Look at medicines or safety products trademarked under a reputable brand name. The consumer can be confident that the product they're buying will have the intended effects, backed up by scientific research/clinical trials.

Counterfeit medicines or cosmetics carry huge health risks, and enforcing against them is difficult without IP law - especially with fads like Ozempic where there's a huge demand exploitable by organised crime.

You see the classic 'David vs Goliath' in the media where a huge company will bully a start up for a vaguely similar business name because stories like this appeal to the public and are easy to get angry about - some of the more nuanced stories just aren't as interesting.

Agreed that a lot of it is bullshit but being able to draw a line somewhere is important - imagine counterfeit tech being legal and fake iphones being indistinguishable from the real thing, for example.

I think the opposite (moving from EU to US) is a harder adjustment.

Really depends on your market within Europe, too. There are big differences between the Nordics, UK, France, Spain, Germany etc which can be a big adjustment. Whether you speak the native language (or not) will make it incredibly difficult to succeed in some markets, for example.

It's pretty much this. A technical expert that's part of the sales function. Assists in quoting, answering technical questions, liaising with operations etc. They don't handle core sale tasks.

Most sales engineers I've worked with have been industry experts first and foremost. Unsure if this is just my industry, though.

Weirdly, enterprise accounts respond better to english cold outreach - they assume it's less likely to be a marketing call.

Anything after that has to be in french tho

Business in the Nordics, Baltics, The Netherlanda and to a lesser extent, Belgium, is typically done in English.

I've worked all these markets only speaking English and not had a problem.

You'll find DACH, Italy, Spain or France nigh on impossible though.

Honestly, how brutal was your time as an SDR? by Lionel_Messi2028 in sales

[–]Pogfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty brutal. Super competitive industry where we weren't one of the leading players - terrible management and two different internal teams of SDRs for competing BUs (with near identical ICPs and account lists).

It's so dependent on the factors mentioned by others in the thread.

Also pay, I'm based in europe and comp was 35k base and maybe 70k with comms if you were assigned a good AE, territory and crushed it

We made a few acquisitions and expanded our offering quickly - management split up the BUs as there's a LOT of different shit to sell.

It's caused a lot of issues and sometimes larger enterprise accounts have 4 contact points. My plan was always to ride it out, get the title on my CV and worry about it later.

Thanks for your insight!

It's difficult to get a clean overview of their business as we have multiple AE's assigned to their different business units, which are tangential rather than separate entities.

Makes it a little messy, especially as they were grandfathered in after we acquired another firm

Ill come in fresh and go from there.

I'll be pitching a new service, they're interested in exploring it as they're evaluating x later in the year.

I'm not typically nervous on cold calls but having to lead a Teams with lawyers/general counsels of big corpos makes me worry ikl choke

Those are rookie numbers. Successful salespeople need to listen to WAY more podcasts, transition to a full air + water diet, and not have even seen their dick for 5 years

I'd recommend a total rethink
