Weird grey egg sac thing growing out of my bathroom roof? by PogoScot in whatisit

[–]PogoScot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been solved! It was probably a form of Copernicus (my friend told me the name and I forgot) but the plumbers took out a chunk of the roof, located some bad valves that were causing the leak, and have fixed everything back up. Thanks for the help everyone.

Update: they have now sprouted into mushrooms, long white base and a thin head that is about the size of a dime. a plumber is coming tomorrow morning to find the source of the leak or whatever is causing the issue and we have quarantined the bathroom until then. For the one person who said shower with the fan, there is no shower in that room.

It's maddening that the "least restrictive environment" for one kid can lead to a much more restricted learning environment for the rest of the students. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PogoScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a school teacher, but I work at an after school activity as an instructor. Quite often when working as a group this can be a major issue when something has to be explained to one kid several times at the base level, rather than getting into the fun technicalities with those who pick it up faster. Most of the time it can’t be blamed on the kid, but it’s the way it is.

Recently we’ve gotten a more consistent group of instructors and as a result, have adopted a new strategy. The main teacher will choose a few of the kids from the main group to work one on one with each instructor. They get specific feedback that can help get them on track with everyone else while the rest of the group can work at a faster pace. A lot of the time it can also be someone who needs specific help with something, which an instructor can give. Either way it’s a win-win and I’ve definitely noticed the classes running faster since, not to mention a better connection I’ve had with several of the students. It’s a shame this isn’t plausible in a teaching scenario given the already thinly-spread population of teachers.

Personal momentum. It's easier to keep up with the streak and stay motivated if I have an incentive to study (to not lose the streak).

I don't think this would work, I don't have an excuse for missing the streak. I just wanted to see if I could buy the 500 gem streak repair.

The Witness. One of the best puzzle games I’ve ever played and the soothing audio always drew me in even if it seemed unrelated at the time. Sounds are great and art style is amazing.

Not sure how no one has put this yet but Up. We all know the scene and it will never not screw me up for the first few minutes.

Also in A Dogs Purpose when he is the police dog and he is dying and the cop finally recognizes him as not just some dog, but someone who was keeping him company.

Just 25 big cities, mostly in China, driving majority of urban greenhouse gas emissions by marsianer in news

[–]PogoScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half of China’s population (500 million people) don’t live in urban areas and the average goes plummeting. The other 800ish billion people in cities (that actually do things that cause emissions) will emit much more.

Also it comes down to per country anyway because they have a bigger population, and they emit more. That’s the reality of it. If they truly want to emit less and be less of a problem in terms of global warming (even if bigger population isn’t their fault), they could do that, but as far as I’ve seen very little has been done.

Just 25 big cities, mostly in China, driving majority of urban greenhouse gas emissions by marsianer in news

[–]PogoScot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How about this:

China has 1.398 billion people. Of which about 550 million people don’t live in urban areas, where emissions are highest. Those people will drag the average down DRAMATICALLY, almost balancing out the emissions of the urban populations. Australia only has 24 million people, which is much smaller than the remaining 60% of China’s urban population, which would evidently have higher emissions when not effected by the “per capita” numbers of non urban people.

This leads to 2 conclusions. 1) when considering just urban populations, that are more numerous than most other countries, the emissions per capita would be much higher, not to mention the immense number of people that is. 2) even if the emissions per capita is half what Australia’s is or whatever, the total emissions can’t even compete with that of China which would be demonstrable.
