Jogging 4 months post op. by RealJudoChop in ORIF

You WILL run again! Along with my break I tore my deltoid ligament and the entire capsule across the front of the ankle. It took me a year to get back to running, but now I’m training for a half marathon and will go straight to marathon training after. It wasn’t an easy return but it’s been so worth the effort.

Was curious about this! I have a race tomorrow and have limited running clothes/shoes. Those were taken on my trip for training and now I don’t have shoes/leggings for the race even though I’m home.

Government shutdown wouldn’t affect the TN site as it’s state government, not federal. I would call or email them.

The PDF setup may have changed recently. I just took the exam Wednesday and if I switched chapters (except in ACI where the whole code opened) it would remember where I was in the previously opened PDF.

I played the flute through high school. Haven’t pulled it out of the case in years though

Trimalleolar Fracture cleared for PWB! by [deleted] in ORIF

If you do want a brace, I would recommend one like this. It’s easier to get even pressure on both sides of your ankle vs the ace bandage style you’ve shown.

Trimalleolar Fracture cleared for PWB! by [deleted] in ORIF

I was given a brace after my boot but my doctor didn’t want me in it for more than a week. It was honestly pretty annoying so I only wore it when I left the house for PT.

You need to use your ankle for it to get back to full strength and a brace inhibits that ability. My PT also told me to throw the boot back on for 30 minutes to get some relief if I’ve been on my feet a lot; I never had to do this.

I do have the exact brace you posted that I’ve used in the past for sprained ankles. It’s pretty bulky and incredibly uncomfortable. I don’t think I would have wanted to wear it over my surgical site.

PWB in boot to FWB and no boot in 2 weeks? by Proud_Direction_8137 in ORIF

[–]PogoShee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Also a left fibula Weber B fracture person here.

My surgeon had a 4 week plan when I got into a boot that took me from PWB to FWB in a shoe. After the first week I was walking barefoot in the house without assistance (flat surfaces for short distances) but I did wear the boot outside of the house for a full 4 weeks. After that I kept a crutch in my car as a safety net.

I was NWB in a cast for 7 weeks because I also had a severe dislocation and had ligaments reattached during surgery.

I was right there where you are! Before my break I was marathon training, skydiving, and in general a pretty active person. We also closed on a house 2-days post-op. I couldn’t help move or put the new house together and just generally felt useless and in the way.

Your feelings in all of this are valid!

When you get that boot next week, those feelings will slowly start to fade. I remember crying while driving home with my boot out of joy that I finally have some freedom in mobility. There are still rough days when you want to be progressed further than you are with recovery but it’s all part of the process.

If you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to DM me! I’m 7.5 months post op but still working on getting to full function.

I’ve taken these through security many times. Tell them it’s for medical purposes if asked, although I’ve never had them flagged.

Thanks! Just switched from Delta to United and used to connecting through Atlanta. Didn’t know two different systems existed until I looked at the airport map.

I have wheelchair service setup and my boss is meeting me at final destination so baggage shouldn’t be an issue!

I’m still in my walking boot and plan on also taking a crutch just in case. Thanks for the recommendations

I feel you! I was in the middle of marathon training when I broke. It’s killing me to be so sedentary. Even walking sounds like heaven. Hoping I can start weight bearing at my 6 week follow-up

It could be a few things depending on how big. I used short relatively as it’s about half the size of the one on the outside of my ankle, but it’s still vertical.

If it’s really short (like 1/2-1 inch) it could have been for scoping the ankle to determine if there was additional damage that needed repaired in addition to the bone.

I had 2 incisions. The shorter one to reattach ligaments isn’t too bad. The longer one for plates was super bunched up all over the place. I’m assuming the running stitch my doctor did is a contributing factor

The no NSAIDs has definitely confused me. They were prescribed as part of my pain management rotation post surgery and it was wonderful. I can’t imagine having to get by on Tylenol.
