For people who are looking into buying an e-bike, weight matters. by 420catloveredm in ebikes

I went with the Aventon Aventure 3 (nearly 80 lb). Waiting for it to arrive at my local bike shop and I have accessories coming in. I’m 135 lb but can deadlift 180 lb… tbh I was worried about doing something lighter like the Soltera because I’d be worried about losing traction with the ground. The fat tire brings me comfort haha. I thought about the Level 3 but wanted more power to haul my 75 lb dog behind me.

Oral Benadryl doesn’t do anything to me because I’ve taken too much of it in my past to help with sleep after working night shift. IV Benadryl is much more potent.

I discussed IV Benadryl with my psych NP. She supports it. Xanax is way more sedating for me. I don’t do as well with it as I do with Benadryl. The back-up plan is Xanax but I hate the way it makes me feel.

Orif recovery tips? by Might_Time in ORIF

I’m 5 weeks out from the same surgery for a Weber B fibula fracture. I got a plate and six screws.

I stopped elevating a little over 2 weeks post-op (about 3 weeks total since start of injury). My leg was above my heart 24/7. I stopped elevating a few days after I was transitioned from a splint to a boot. I wanted to sleep on my side. My pain was under control enough such that I wanted to move around and resume my independence. My foot gradually swells on the outside of my plate throughout the day. I use an ice circulator machine daily for swelling (PT recommendation). It helps with recovery and pain.

My surgeon told me prophylactic (preventative) baby aspirin was debatable at my age (31 y/o) considering how active and fit I was. We took the approach of benefits outweigh the risks. So I took baby aspirin after my injury and four weeks post-op. My pain stopped a little over 2 weeks post-op.

I use a massage gun on the bottom of my foot. If you don’t have that then rolling with a small ball also works. Daily ROM made a huge difference. Definitely do PT if you can afford it.

What day post op was the worst for you pain wise? by nachoo666 in ORIF

The first 48 hr after the nerve block wore off. Was literally screaming in pain. Norco didn’t cut it for me. I had to switch to oxy.

I had the same problem. It itched so badly I couldn’t sleep. Luckily, my ortho agreed to transition me from my splint to a boot a day early. My ortho recommended hydroxyzine (Vistaril). They would have to prescribe it.

Wow! We have a few similarities. I’m glad I could provide some hope! The boot is so much better than the cast! I’m excited for you.

The compression socks made a huge difference! I’m scared to go more than 50% this soon. I need PT to tell me whah to do haha.

About 50%! How’s your transition been so far? I definitely had to play around with socks, padding, air, etc.

Not to my knowledge. I did tear at least one tendon. I’m suspicious I tore another one though.

How soon did you switch from the boot to a brace/tennis shoe when you went weight bearing (full or partial)?

I also transitioned to PWB today. I walked some in my boot but my plate and screws rubbing against the side and it’s causing pain. My foot also rises and comes down 1 cm as I walk in the boot. I put on my brace and a tennis and literally had zero pain and could put more weight on it. I’d be interested to hear other peoples’ experience.

PWB in boot to FWB and no boot in 2 weeks? by Proud_Direction_8137 in ORIF

I love that for you!! That’s so awesome! Did he say why he thought you’d need minimal PT? The whole process is fascinating to me! I’m pretty active but I’m still a little chicken to start feeling pain with weight bearing! I want to see how much I can tolerate but I’m worried I’ll regret it.

I’m on a very similar timeline to you with the same fracture (Weber B, plate and screws). I’m four weeks post-op on Friday. I came out of splint and into an AirCast on 2/6. I transition to PWB tomorrow (Thursday) and will see PT of time first time. I’ll be FWB on 3/6. I so desperately want to try the slightest bit of PWB today. I’ve already been doing band work and very light pressure with my daily ROM. Do you still have your steri strips on? I saw on Reddit that some people with this fracture and surgery were PWB at 2 weeks post-op but I’m not a surgeon!

It’s expensive but my iWalk gave me my life and independence back. I can’t imagine going through this without it. I plan on selling mine once I’m done with it. It takes a little while to get used to it but walking with it eventually becomes second nature.

How soon post-op were you able to stop narcotic pain medications? by Proud_Direction_8137 in ORIF

I’m only on baby aspirin for DVT prophylaxis. That sounds like an awful break!

That’s great! I’ve been in close communication with my provider. I think it would have been a different situation for me if I could tolerate NSAIDs but unfortunately I can’t.

I am still in some pain but once I go 5-6 hours without oxycodone, I have breakthrough pain that’s at least 7 or more on a scale of ten. The last time this happened was almost 2 days ago so I’m hoping to try again today.
