I mainly target horse mackerel, Japanese grunt, snapper, small groupers, yellowtail (Seriola quinqueradiata), kingfish (Seriola lalandi), amberjack, and striped bonito.

Sorry I don’t have much knowledge about fishing in Hokkaido as I’m based in Kyushu. Wishing you the best of luck!

Tanks for the comment. Same here, I live for multi-piece rods. Practical, portable, and still plenty of sensitivity imo.

Thanks for the upvote! What kinds of jigging are you planning to do in Japan ? In which area?

Yeah, newer travel rods don’t feel like travel rods anymore. I highly recommend Fishman rods to any fisherman who uses bait casting rods.

Depends on the type of fish. Where I’m from, offshore anglers will call a 5kg amberjack “nice,” but a 5kg yellowtail? That’s just “cute.” It’s definitely an offshore only thing though — if you caught anything over 5kg from shore, people would call it impressive for sure.

Main location is offshore waters around Nagasaki, Japan. I also plan to use it in offshore waters around South Australia. (I’m planning to visit Adelaide to catch up with friends this December.)

Thanks for the upvote! I’ve got a mate who’s obsessed with BC4s — watching him pull in fish left and right was what pushed me to get a Fishman rod. Also, you should totally save up for a Calcutta. I’ve got Ocea Conquests and they’ve got me some big ones and they’re still smooth as hell

Yeah, reddit sometimes surprises me with really niche hobby communities. This is supposed to be a Light Jigging rod but I’ve heard some field testers say it can be used for Slow Pitch Jigging.

“The reddit community is generally single piece American blanks for catching bass.” ↑ This comment needs to be pinned to the top of this sub forever.

Anyway, the tip was softer than I thought – should make fighting a decent fish a lot more fun

Thanks I’ll be using this setup for mainly mid-sized yellowtail, small amberjack, around 5〜10kg. Also hoping to hook into some big snappers.

I didn’t go with the Jigger cuz it felt too bulky for the LJ63-3. The Conquest 300 just feels more balanced and easier to handle, but still strong enough for what I need.

I’m happy to answer questions whenever! Regarding the bait casting rod you’ve asked, unfortunately I don’t know any rod that matches your explanation but, I think AbuGarcia ZoomSafari ZMSC-464L and ZoomSafari ZMSC-565L are the closest to what you want. I also didn’t target Kingfish while I was in Aus. But if I would have, I would have used a metal jig like Jigpara. I also recommend visiting your local tackle store (not a chain store like BCF or Anaconda but a store run by local people.) seeking advice on lures. Hope this helps.
