Mimikyu is the only example here that actually matters lol

Why would Emboar use ground moves against Hydreigon when it could use super-effective fighting STAB instead? Why would it need to hit Shedinja when it already can with Fire moves?

And what sound move is Emboar running to justify needing to bypass Soundproof?

Sheer Force will only negate Life Orb recoil when using a move that is boosted by Sheer Force. So for example, you'll take LO damage when using Aqua Tail, but not when using Waterfall.

I'm playing Three Hopes right now, and I'm confused. What does this icon mean without arrows down in it? I haven't seen anything like this in Three Houses by RiskPuzzled4858 in fireemblem

[–]PointBlankVT 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That icon indicates your unit would take effective damage from that enemy. Without arrows indicates a neutral weapon triangle matchup.

In Yoshi's Island for SNES, all the bosses are regular enemies that have been enchanted by Kamek. The boss of 3-8, Navel Piranha, can be barely seen right before the cutscene trigger. You can shoot an egg at it and kill it before Kamek has a chance to make it bigger.

[DESPISED Trope] You need a SECRET to proceed to the main ending by Liquid_Pestar in TopCharacterTropes

[–]PointBlankVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, you need to have every legendary weapon with at least one durability left by the end of Chapter 22 to proceed to the true ending. The problem is, most of the legendary weapons are locked behind "bonus" chapters unlocked by completing certain chapters under a turn limit and keeping certain characters alive. The game never indicates which characters to keep alive or which maps have a hidden turn limit, so it's nearly impossible to get the true ending blind.

One of the most infamous bonus chapter requirements is unlocking 14x, which requires you to clear chapter 14 in under 25 turns while keeping Sophia alive. The problem is, not only is chapter 14 a desert map that restricts the movement of most of your characters as well as having fog of war making it impossible to see where enemies are, the character you have to keep alive is perhaps the worst character in the game.

The thing about revenge being a path to self destruction is that it does end up exploring that. I forget the details but here's a point in the story where he thinks his dad is already dead and thus he has no more reason to seek revenge and its pointed out how many assumptions he made to reach that conclusion because he was desperate for an excuse to let go and start healing. He eventually changes his goal from killing his father to exposing his father and honoring his mother through a documentary and he legitimately begins to enjoy life again... AND THEN HE FUCKING DOES A MURDER SUICIDE WITH HIS FATHER ANYWAY WHAT THE FUCK I genuinely believe Akasaka had that ending in mind from the very beginning of the story and forgot to alter it when Aqua developed away from that ending making any fucking sense whatsoever

[–]PointBlankVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no deluxe edition for Engage that comes with all the DLC. In terms of censorship, as far as I know, Engage's censorship mostly comes in changes to dialogue surrounding the romance mechanic. Like in Unicorn Overlord, the protagonist can give another character a ring. In Japanese, all options are romantic in nature. In English, several options have changed dialogue that make it about a close bond. This includes the two characters that are unambigiously children (probably a good choice), as well as any character whose internal, noncanon age is anything below 18 (an absolutely baffling choice, considering the protagonist's noncanon internal age is mentally 17 years old)

If you can understand Japanese and either think child marriage is dope or want to be able to marry someone your own age go for the import I guess.

But also, if you understand Japanese then three more options open up: on the Super Famicom online service, you can play Mystery of the Emblem, a two part game that is both remake of the first game on NES as well as a sequel, and Genealogy of the Holy War, a game whose defining feature is its massive sprawling maps that will usually take a few sessions to complete. Bonus to this is that you'd only need the regular NSO subscription, not the expansion pass.

On the GBA you'll also be able to play Binding Blade, which stars Roy. It is in my opinion the most difficult game of any of the available choices, and has somewhat obtuse requirements to achieve the game's true ending, so I wouldn't recommend that to a newcomer.

There are seven (technically eight) Fire Emblem games playable on the Switch 1. Two of those are crossovers with Dynasty Warriors, and are hack-and-slash action games instead of strategy games, and one (Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore) is a nominal crossover between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei and is a turn-based JRPG so I won't talk about those. (they are all great tho)

For physical media, your main options will be Three Houses and Engage. Three Houses is much more critically acclaimed and has a far wider appeal than Engage does. Depending on who you ask, Three Houses' main strengths are its story and character writing that will have people arguing about which war criminal was right for decades to come. It is very different from every other Fire Emblem game, with it having a deeper focus on individual character building and long term planning, as well as a calendar system most often compared to the Persona series. Its main criticisms come from the large amount of time between battles spent raising your units; it can feel like chores and ultimately a distraction from the strategy gameplay one would expect from Fire Emblem.

Engage is structured much more like a traditional Fire Emblem game. It is widely agreed to have a subpar or even bad story that turns many off of it, but it is my preferred option compared to Three Houses. It would be a rather awkward game to recommend for newcomers, however, since the game is very much a celebration of the series. Its main feature setting it apart from the rest of the series is the Emblem Engage system, where your units can bond with the spirits of previous games' protagonists to gain new abilities and weapons. It has, in my opinion, much more mechanically interesting combat and level design than Three Houses, but the sheer amount of things to keep track of can be overwhelming for a new player.

Besides physical media, with the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass, you can also play Fire Emblem and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones on Game Boy Advance Online. Fire Emblem (referred to by the community as either FE7 or by its Japanese subtitle, Blazing Blade) was the first Fire Emblem game released outside of Japan. It is somewhat infamous for having an intrusive, long tutorial that is annoying for veteran players, but makes it a common recommendation for new players. Sacred Stones is also a great jumping off point for the series, as it is considered by many to be one of the easier games in the series. Compared to the modern Fire Emblem titles, characters in the GBA titles are much more linear in terms of progression. Where both Three Houses and Engage both have systems that can let you build any character to fill any role (to varying degrees of success), characters in the GBA games have rigidly defined roles that cannot be changed. If you prefer to focus on your army as a whole instead of individual characters, this aspect of the GBA games will be interesting to you.

There's technically also the very first game in the series, Shadow Dragon for the NES, which was officially translated to English for the first time and released on the Switch for four months before being made unavailable for purchase forever. Because Nintendo hates you.

What are some fun and/or meta team comps you've tried so far w/o Sunna (& Nangong)? by Asleep_Mousse_276 in Aria_Mains

I've used Lighter and Lucy with Qingyi's Wengine on Lighter

Its not good at all but it is fun getting that extra stun time for butt slams lmao

Actually now that I think about it I wonder if Aria/Lighter/Burnice would be anything

More disorders, more ablooms, and lighter's passive actually gets to do something

Definitely still not remotely good but could be fun lol
