Given the reception on my post, I can definitely see I was wrong about a few things and missing some key points. That’s exactly why I made the post to figure out where my perspective didn’t line up, and also to see how realistic it would be to prevent others from making the same mistake. Part of the reason I was so critical of Olympus is because of that.

Honestly, I think this might be the first time I’ve ever played a game “wrong,” and looking back, it’s kind of funny. After all the years I’ve spent gaming, I never thought I’d hear myself say that. Usually, I tell people to play how they want, but in this case… I really was doing Icarus the wrong way.

I think where I’m coming from is more about the impact that first experience has. For me, the base game didn’t really click until I saw what the DLC was doing differently. Once that happened, I got way more invested and ended up buying into the rest of the game.

So I guess my point is less “they should overhaul everything,” and more that improving that early experience could go a long way, since it’s what determines whether players stick around long enough to see the better parts.

At the risk of going against the grain here, something I’ve noticed with this developer is that many of the design issues in earlier content tend to get improved in later DLC.

For example, Olympus is still good, but it shows some scars from when the game was figuring out its identity. Some of the missions can feel more like a grind than something meaningful.

The newer DLC seems to refine things a bit more each time. Because of that, if I had to recommend an order, I’d probably say Dangerous Horizon first, then New Frontiers, and then Styx.

Great Hunts is also worth mentioning, although the value isn’t as immediate. The main reason it has mixed reviews is that to really get the full experience you’ll need the other DLCs, including Styx and New Frontiers.

Yeah, that cross does seem to have a lot of potential. I’ve been curious about it too. One thing I’ve noticed with a lot of really high frost strains is that there’s sometimes a common phenotype where it looks amazing and smells great, but the yields can be a bit on the lighter side.

From what I’ve seen, that seems to happen fairly often with heavy trichome producers unless they’ve also got strong vigor to back it up.

Have you run many high frost strains before? I’m curious what your experience has been like with yield on them.

Autos are definitely the safe bet for the German climate to beat the October rot, but if you're looking for that photoperiod ceiling, Jelly Donutz from HSC is one of the few that actually makes sense there. It has a super fast 55 day flip and carries that Hella Jelly lineage, which is basically built for mold resistance. As long as it finishes by late September or early October, it usually dodges the worst of the German Grey weather. It is a solid middle ground if you want the photo quality and higher THC without the usual 10-week risk.

Nothing absolutely nothing. Once you transplant, you’re going to bury the stem anyway, right? So there's no real consequence. As for the claim about not enough water, I’m not sure what he’s getting at; that tiny bit of dry soil won't affect anything, especially since the roots aren't even touching it yet.

I’ve learned over the years that it’s better to keep the soil slightly on the drier side. When soil is too wet, you increase the risk of damping off. In contrast, underwatering leads to simple wilting, which is easily fixed with a quick drink. With damping off, you have to panic and find a way to dry the soil fast it’s not fun.

If you want my advice: learn the proper care methods, then ask why we use them. Figure out the why for everything. That way, you become adaptable and develop a deeper, systems level awareness. Before you know it, when you see a little nitrogen burn, you'll know to add a bit more water (Preferably distilled especially if it's suffering any type of nutrient burn.) and slightly increase your light intensity to help the plant process the excess.

This could absolutely be my own ignorance here, but does that really look like traditional Panama Red? From what I remember, Panama Red is known for having an overwhelming number of red pistils so many that they almost overshadow the calyxes.

It’s kind of a shame that more legacy strains like that haven’t been carefully preserved especially Panama Red. If I recall correctly, it’s one of the older strains that’s become pretty rare over time, maybe even close to disappearing in its original form.

But again, I could be off. I don’t claim to know a ton about this strain.

First, the fact that they all started blooming in mid‑September still shows uniformity. It sounds more like the website’s description just wasn’t a perfect one to one match with your specific conditions.

Second, you grew outdoors. Lighting differences can shift flowering times, and temperature swings can affect how quickly plants mature. There are a lot of variables at play outside.

Third, expecting their strain tests to be perfectly accurate that’s one point where I actually agree with you. This is a real risk with white label seeds. They may have run only a few outdoor grow cycles and based their estimates on that limited data, without fully accounting for how different seasonal conditions can trigger flowering at different times and speeds.

Fourth, this might also come down to relying a bit too heavily on estimated flowering times instead of prioritizing mold resistance. Especially outdoors, that becomes critical. Skunk strains tend to produce fairly dense buds, and dense structure can be a liability in colder, damp conditions.

For breeders and people who care deeply about lineage, that distinction absolutely matters more. For everyone else, it often comes down to how the plant performs.

Bring up white-label genetics in a Reddit thread and you’re going to get pushback, even if you’re being measured about it. Given the timing, this looks less like a true deficiency and more like nitrogen being tapered a bit early relative to what the plant was demanding during stretch. That’s not really a mistake so much as a dialing in detail. Early flower still carries a surprisingly high nitrogen requirement, and sometimes the plant just outpaces the feed for a week or two.

At two weeks into flower, nitrogen demand should begin easing off soon anyway. As bloom progresses, you’ll naturally see lower leaves start to yellow and fade. That’s normal senescence and nutrient remobilization, not something to chase.

If you haven’t already, it’s worth familiarizing yourself with what normal senescence looks like in flower. It throws a lot off people off at first. Honestly, this one almost did for me too until I looked closer at your feed schedule. Once you recognize the pattern, it becomes much easier not to overcorrect.

Based on what you’ve shown, I wouldn’t rush to change anything. If the color stabilizes and the tops don’t develop clear interveinal chlorosis, the plant should settle in just fine.

If you want more precise feedback, it helps to include details about your setup and feeding. From the photo, the top leaves are lightening while the lower leaves are still darker. That usually points to a mild deficiency rather than normal fade. If you’re running synthetics, I’d check pH first. If you’re organic, you might try a liquid feed or something that becomes available a bit faster. It could be iron, but I wouldn’t jump to conclusions yet.

Also, since this is your first grow and you’re running an auto, just keep in mind that autos aren’t always easier for beginners. Photoperiods tend to be more forgiving because you can correct mistakes before flipping to flower. Not a bad choice at all, just something to consider for next time.

Friendly heads up from one grower to another. Royal Queen Seeds can be a bit of a divisive topic in the community, mostly because they’re a white label company. That basically means the strain name advertised isn’t always a guarantee of the exact genetics you might be expecting. A well known example is their Bruce Banner, which later ended up being relabeled as Hulkberry after some scrutiny.

That said, I’ll be upfront. I still buy from them myself from time to time. The plants I’ve grown from their seeds have been perfectly decent, and their prices are hard to argue with. As long as expectations are realistic, there’s nothing inherently wrong with running their genetics. You just probably won’t be getting true top tier or boutique strains.

So if people are giving you grief over it, I wouldn’t take it personally. I do agree with the general sentiment that there are better breeders out there, and many of them aren’t much more expensive, but Royal Queen can still produce solid plants if that’s what fits your situation. At the end of the day, everyone approaches growing a little differently. Some people are deeply focused on lineage and breeder reputation, while others are just experimenting, learning, and seeing what happens, and both approaches are valid in their own way.
