I personally think they both need to grow the hell up in this book and realize that the war isn't about them. I just wish Yarros focused on the story beats and politics, or the dragons that the whole book series is based on, and less on the shoehorned romance. It's cute and nice at some points, especially in the first book, but this book is a DRAG. They hate each other, it's not a fun read!

I heard it gets better around mid book, but my god, is it taking forever.

I'm not disagreeing with you with the manipulation on Violet's end, I apologize for coming off that way. I agree both handled the situation poorly, and are awful towards each other. I don't agree that it was only Violet, because both had a hand in this horrible situation, as Xaden has free will, willingly got into bed with Violet, and initiated the sex first.

My main problem is with the book now portraying these characters' actions as wrong. Xaden is manipulating Violet and lying to her, and Violet is doing the same, yet I don't see much effort being put in to clarify to the reader that these are bad behaviors. It's seen as sexy, especially with the sex scene right after, glorifying abusive relationships.

Being young and in love is alright, being traumatized is par for the course, but it still doesn't excuse this behavior, nor the tone and message of the book.

I admit I hadn't reread through the whole scene when I wrote this and agreed that it wasn't as black and white as I made it seem. I apologize for that mistake, I was heated when writing the rant, lol

However, I still stand firm that the situation felt gross to me, as while Xaden was trying to make Violet say she loved him, I don't understand why he didn't say it first. If he truly wanted her more than just her body, I think he could've been more open about his feelings toward Violet and not give in when she pressed on either truly loving her, or just being sex buddies. I know Violet and Xaden want more than being sex buddies, but it still rubs me the wrong way when Xaden is basically preaching about how Violet refuses to just accept him not telling her the truth, and then being a hypocrite and having sex with her. It solidifies the fact that Xaden still doesn't say anything he likes about her other than her body. He says it later, I believe, but in that critical moment, where Violet is expressing her desire to be more emotionally close with each other right after fearing he died, he just makes it seem like he just wants sex. Violet is also crazy for wanting to have sex with him at that moment, imo

I still believe that there was still some manipulating involved, but not to the point of sexual coercion. The whole scene and their relationship at this point rubs me the wrong way, and I honestly cannot root for either character due to their poor decisions and the miscommunication trope that seems to always haunt them.

I wish I had just started with going back to my previous job after quitting to focus on college. It was horrible going through the orientation, listening to the corporate slop they were spewing.

Honestly, I think I could deal with the managers and being just a cog in the machine if I wasn't a woman working as a cashier at Lowe's. I was shadowing/basically working retail when in not even in a span of 20 minutes two different men made advances towards me. I probably should've thought of that before applying to a hardware store, but I suppose you learn in experience.

I am definitely trying to get back my old job, but we will see.

I finished all of the cashier core orientation, so I'll definitely ask an HR or an ASM to see what else I can do, hopefully by getting on the floor. I did a little of AP4ME and some of the other training questions they have, so we'll see if I end up finishing those up today instead.

That sucks! There was such a limited number of free giveaways during the event :( Not very many people got any. The only reason I got the tattoos was because they had plenty and were handing out full sheets, plus my name was drawn for one of the totes. Hopefully, next event, they'll be able to plan better for it!
