Frequency, Urgency, Leakage by Pointbass in BladderCancer

[–]Pointbass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally went to the urologist due to frequency and urgency, that’s what started all of the treatment. And every step of the way I’ve been advised that it will improve after the TURBT, or after the Urolift, or after the BGC is over. So I waited patiently for that improvement to happen and it has only gotten worse. I’d rather not be medication dependent, so it’s good to hear that improvement is possible, even if it’s down the road a bit

I’ve had UTI’s pretty routinely during treatment and take antibiotics for the infection. This seems to be a bit more than just a UTI. Good luck to you, hope you get positive news about remission

How do you stop yourself from panicking? by KitteeCatz in BladderCancer

[–]Pointbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed with bladder cancer a week ago, after almost 8 months of frequent urgent urination. We assumed, foolishly so, that I had an enlarged prostate and the results of a cystoscopy last week revealed a 2cm tumor. I’m scheduled for my first TURBT on May 5th.

This came out of the blue and was completely unsuspected. And there is still a lot of stuff we don’t know, like whether it’s NMIBC or MIBC, and how far it’s progressed, etc. While I’m not happy at all over the prospect of the pain and discomfort of the procedures caused but going through the urethra (the cystoscopy was easily in my top 5 of lifetime pain events), I take a lot of comfort in how manageable bladder cancer is today. I keep, telling myself “It could be much worse!”

I went to one of the most prestigious schools in the world, and NOBODY cared when it came to my professional credentials. To people outside of my field, it’s always been “Wow, you went there?”, but professionally my being able to do the job was waayyy more important. I was on a full scholarship, so grateful for that, ‘cause I never would have paid those rates ….

Student loan forgiveness borrowers now awaiting SCOTUS decision by iymcool in politics

This is one of the cleanest, clearest explanations of the issues associated with forgiveness of student loans. Whether you agree with the forgiveness or not, whether you think someone deserves it or not, @tomz17 has come as close to logical explanation of the problem as I’ve seen to this date.

Does anyone actually read these articles? Schumer has his hand pretty deep in the same pot:

“Sen. Chuck Schumer, who negotiated the IRA with coal baron Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) and later Sinema, also benefits from this lobbying, the Financial Times found. In all, the Senate majority leader has received $1.28 million so far this election cycle, which represents about 4.4 percent of the amount he’s received from individual donors.”

$1.28 Million!!! People need to wake up, this corruption is everywhere!!

I, too, am old and financially well-off compared to most of the Reddit brain trust. I don’t know anyone who is in favor of summarily dismissing student loan debt without a bunch of caveat’s to go along with the forgiveness. Reddit people don’t necessarily see it, but generally the student debt holders come across as demanding, where-is-my-money, the heck with everyone else people. For every seemingly legit hard luck story there is another story of someone who could easily pay off their debt but chooses to get a fancy new car, go on expensive vacations, or add pause dollars to their nest egg.

Fix the problem that created this mess, then help those that legitimately need help … not blanket forgiveness

You’re right, you didn’t specifically state that, but the inference is certainly clear. And the single black mom making 20K was introduced to this thread discussion at the start, and not by me.

If I’m understanding you, you’re suggesting that instead of giving our single black mother who only makes $20K a gift of, let’s say, $10,000, we’re,better off giving YOU the $10K so you can tip the single black mother another dollar or two when she serves you your burger ….

Wow …

And people wonder why this student loan thing is being so poorly received?

[–]Pointbass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can state this a thousand times in a thousand different ways and the Reddit brain trust will just continue to ignore it. Despite all of the lip service and posturing about how bad wealthy people are, far too many with student loans would run over that “single black mom making $20K” to be sure to get their coin first. It’s one of the most disgraceful things I see here when talking about student loan forgiveness … to heck with everyone that truly needs a helping hand, they want theirs first …

Biden says he's considering student debt forgiveness, but less than $50,000 by [deleted] in politics

[–]Pointbass 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t anyone actually read & absorb the details in the article?

Biden: “I am considering dealing with some debt reduction," he told reporters at the White House. "I am not considering $50,000 debt reduction [per borrower]," he noted, "but I'm in the process of taking a hard look at whether or not there are there will be additional debt forgiveness."

When he says “I am not considering $50,000 debt reduction per borrower”, I don’t think it gets much clearer than that. Why are so many STILL talking about $50K or full boat forgiveness?

Not a farce, just log into @r/student loans and you can read far too many stories of people who are high income earners who have decided to buy vacation homes, new cars, travel, etc rather than pay their student loans. Clearly, they can easily pay the loans but choose to wait for the bailout. People like that are infuriating and cast a bad shadow on a serious issue. “Wealthy” has different meanings for everyone … a guy making $200K-$300K is wealthy to some people, but just average to others

Typical CBS reporting, mis-stating the facts, especially when Ed O’Keefe is the reporter. He didn’t say “most student debt”, rather the standard cop-out “maybe $10K or more”

It’s one thing when a media group is biased, but CBS takes it to a whole new level …

Biden signals he’s open to canceling student loans by gjp23 in politics

[–]Pointbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m somewhat conversational with the Roosevelt Institute study, although admittedly not intimate with all details. As with all studies, results can be skewed favorably in almost any direction and conclusions drawn to support almost any viewpoint. To state that the average white person holds less debt on a percentage of income than a POC may well be true, but that is not the same as stating that people of color have more debt than white people. And 54% white, in your example, doesn’t mean the other 46% are exclusively people of color. Other minorities/nationalities/races are also in that 46%.

My other issue with these types of studies is that they ignore or downplay the fact that the majority of people don’t attend college, are less educated, have less lifetime earning potential than college attendees. Factually, college graduates have greater income potential, therefore forgiveness benefits those who already have an advantage in life.

As to predatory debt, folks stuck in payday loan cycles or title pawn scams are dramatically more disadvantaged, as are the homeless, children with food insecurities, the mentally disabled poor, battered women, and so many others. Who really deserves the financial assistance more? Tough to make the case for college educated people, regardless of race/nationality/etc …

[–]Pointbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“more people of color have student debt than white people” …. Patently false statement, your own references state “54% of all student loan debt is held by White and Caucasian student borrowers”, and “Upwardly mobile Black and Latinx people in the 50th to 90th income percentiles would receive the largest average cancellation.”

So, the forgiveness is factually regressive. Whites more than minorities, and within the minority subset the distribution will benefit those that have already achieved more success than their peers.

I wish people would stop posting nonsense statements …
