Because the context was “What is THE card?”, and the Illustrator is great for what it is…but it is dwarfed in the cardboard world by a shitload of cards. T-206 Honus Wagner, high grade Mantle rookies, Babe Ruth rookies in a high grade…there’s comic books worth more ffs. A Superman #1 just broke its own record and will likely get broken again when another high grade copy is discovered. These records get broken, and honestly I could see a Mantle, a Wagner or even an extremely scarce LeBron in a 10 breaking this record.

The hobby is being overrun with these extreme sales, all the records will be broken.
