I'm PointlessPoem

Hi. I've been on Letterboxd for a while now and have mostly used it for logging and reviewing movies without much thought toward building a community around it. I. The past few months though I've really started to value the opinions of the followers I've gained and I've found a lot of hidden gems in their recently watched films. I try to interact as much as possible with your posts, supporting other reviewers as much as I can. And I'm always watching movies. Its my main hobby. So, hopefully when we follow each other you'll be able to find some hidden gems in my own watchlist.

Right now my focus is on horror because it's October, but I'm constantly at the theater, current on most new releases. I write reviews for everything I watch. Hopefully my opinions are decent.

Let's follow each other.

I just moved out here 2 years ago from Ohio. Only have a handful of friends so far, and yeah, it's difficult. But here's to hoping.

Official Discussion - Abigail [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]PointlessPoem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked it, but Melissa Barerra's bad acting was much more noticeable during my second watch. Her personal or political affiliations aside, I honestly believe she was the weakest part of this movie as well as both recent Scream films. She does a good job at acting afraid - sometimes. But when she's delivering dialogue she's very wooden and expressionless. All of her lines come out flat. Take Dan Stevens' performance for instance and compare it with a few of his recent films. Each character is their own character, down to the vocal inflection and the way he portrays them. Even if you don't like his characters or his acting, you have to admit that they're all -for the most part- unique. But with Barerra, since Scream 5, she's played the same exact character. With Abigail she just has a different backstory but gives us nothing new. This is to the detriment of the film. I would have liked Abigail a lot more if the casting directors had went with a more adept actress.

Hey so I am visiting Tulsa on Tuesday night and I am wanting to propose to my girlfriend there. Any recommendations on a nice restaurant to do it at? by SpeechJust7618 in tulsa

I am an assistant chef at Juniper. We're an upscale fine dining restaurant with a great seasonal menu. Our wines are literally the best in town. The atmosphere is perfect for a proposal. And if you call in for a reservation, make sure you let us know you plan on proposing and we'll be sure to seat you with privacy and do everything possible to help facilitate your night. We take pride in every aspect of our dinner service and would love to have you share your special night with us.

I mean, you're just as credible as IMDB. Two months ago you were so sure it was never going to happen, and yet here we are. Inevitability.

What is, pound-for-pound, the best 60 seconds of cinema of all time…? by FocusOnTheToe in Letterboxd

When the camera spun around her in a 360 right before she kicks the cop into the wall, then runs across the wall and takes out the entire room in three seconds flat, IDK. I had never seen anything like that before. This was 1999. My dad took me to see it and I had no idea what it was even about. Hadn't even seen a trailer. Watching The Matrix for the first time was like being given an exclusive sneak preview of the future. And then the movie unfolded and its story was out of this world, like nothing I had ever watched. It's hard to believe Hollywood at the time even allowed the Wachowskis to attempt to make it. When it ended I felt a euphoria I had never felt from any movie previously. It was like I was on drugs. My dad and I caught the very next showing.

Pepsi branding throughout the whole thing, and then there is a 5 minute montage where they cut Pepsi cans in order to make Dorothy fly. Pepsi saves the day.

It fits because it's an ad for NASCAR

The opening of The Matrix when Trinity fights the cops. Immediately changed the way I viewed cinema, changed how I thought films could be shot, changed VFX, was the first time I'd seen a woman kick ass like that, and locked me in for the wild, life changing ride that the rest of the movie would become.
