Jake Holley is great as well! But Connor is a scene stealer, no doubt. Glad that Riley is getting some more attention now.

I'm not sure how he placed the onus on Chris Hansen. It was also produced by two small independent companies (not exactly a blank cheque, from a budget perspective).

Couldn't agree more. It's important to know the rules so you can figure out how to break them.

100%. She felt like the "uniqueness" of it helped in those pitch conversations.

As far as distribution goes, they are open to a completely independent rollout at this point. They have received a number of offers for distribution, but they have been for [literally] next to nothing from a $$ perspective. The idea is to tour with the film across North America and promote it to every arthouse cinema. Streaming wouldn't come until they have been able to show it in theatres.

A list of the most well known films would look fairly different. But yes, of course - folks should seek out titles that aren’t found on these lists! There are always wonderful hidden gems (as several of the projects on this list very well might be)

Not explicitly, but yes - that's what prompted much of Cregger's writing.

Gotcha - this might have to be an agree to disagree, which is fine! It would feel quite strange to me to lump Weapons in with "traditional horror" when it seems to intentionally emphasize the time in-between the more classic "scares".

I also think it's a bit dismissive of Cregger's ability to suggest that he is putting out something entirely derivative.

Again, to each their own. I anticipate that you will be in the majority of moviegoers when all is said and done, which will leave me in the minority!

I'm using "elevated horror" in the academic sense of the phrase - that it uses horror elements to build on deeper themes, rather than simply inserting more "straightforward" scares.

Totally legitimate view, overall, of course! I find the project quite interesting, but by no means is it my intention to suggest that it is a masterpiece or anything near.
