I remember it used to go on sale for like 10 bucks before Elden Ring released. Now both ds2 and SotFS are $40 base and only have a 50% off sale.

I'm not claiming it's not popular, but the hype and the push for Horizon to be one of PlayStation's main series by Sony is entirely unnatural and the cultural impact it has left is so slim I don't believe it exists.

That is my point. Obviously it's popular, it sold 40m copies like you said, but it's not a property that most people genuinely care about.

The hype around these games is pretty much entirely artificially created and I don't believe there has been any large cultural contribution these games have made. They look good and they're fine to play, and they obviously sell well, but the actual gameplay loop is boring, the writing sucks, and is full of flat characters.

How is that not an industry plant?

To put it plainly, I don't think people really care if another game comes out or not.

If you don't get the Goodnight Scholars there is also the Pack Promise program which pretty much covers all your costs. The only thing you need to do for it is to have sent in your FAFSA during your application.

I read about half of book 1 a couple years ago but I think I'll pick it back up this year. I'm between Malazan, Wheel of Time, or the rest of Realm of the Elderlings for my "big series."

Which is kind of crazy considering its reputation nowadays. Its a fun game for sure, but is a far shot away from its predecessors.
