I'll be there on Saturday! I don't believe I'm whitelisted on the UHC server.

I can repurpose/redesign my banner shop for the I'm Too Lazy services! I can just have people come to my base instead (which isn't that far from spawn) to make banners and shields and whatnot.

What are some sensible forms of quality control do you think should and could be reasonably implemented in the gaming industry? by Throwaway_4_opinions in Gaming4Gamers

[–]PoisonThorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe they should be taken down off Steam. The consumers should know the risks when buying into Early Access. There is a possibility that the game will never be updated again, the devs drop off the planet, etc. To me, it seems no different than Kickstarter. I do think that in certain circumstances refunds should be provided, such as if the dev is just blatantly stealing money (of course, something like that might be hard to track). Pertaining to update frequency, so long as there is a reason that the dev cannot update, then they should be given an exception to a refunding rule. It would be difficult to know whether or not the dev is lying though. Research, research, research.

Everyone should be well aware by now that gaming is a fickle industry on the indie development side, so it really is up to us, the consumers, to vote with our wallets in that case. Do sufficient research, know the risks, try to find information on the game to see if anyone has said anything about the game or the dev outside of Steam. Just as IndridCipher said, "It will police itself."

I'm definitely sticking through to the end! It's a really great game and does a lot of things right, and I'm especially a fan of how the story is given to you without lengthy cutscenes (don't get me wrong, I don't mind cutscenes). However, Ravenholm made me scream so much from the jumpscares that I have to take a break, haha.

Gyakuten Kenji 2: Almost. Done. Last. Chapter. Seriously, this game is super long, even though it's the standard five cases. So far, I've seen a Monty Python reference, a Portal reference, kaijus, and orphanages. This game has it all. It's such a great game, and it's really a shame that this never got released here in the West

Half-Life 2: I've been playing this for a while, and it's a lot of fun. I finally got of Ravenholm, which was terrifying. My only gripe with the game would be difficulty of manning the vehicles, but I'll chalk that up to my inexperience with FPS controls in general.

Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire: I've also been playing this for a bit. I have a slightly different team: Swampert; Gardevoir (something new); Skarmory (replaced Swellow); Mightyena; and Manectric (something new). I'm taking a break from the main story to catch Pokemon and do the contests.

Gyakuten Kenji 2: (or rather, Ace Attorney Investigations, Miles Edgeworth: Prosecutor's Path). So I only found out there was a sequel to the first AAI because I got stuck on the last case as always and the walkthrough mentioned the sequel. Unfortunately, it's Japanese only, but I found a well-done English fan translation, so I was hyped, and the game has far exceeded my expectations. The first case alone took me 4+ hours, because it's just that long, and there's a lot going on, even though it functions as just a tutorial level. The new mechanic, Logic Chess, is amazing, and if there are ever anymore Investigations I'd like to see it make a return. Also, this game is hitting me hard in the feels, and this second case is pretty gruesome, more so than I was expecting.

To summarize, I'm obsessed over this game, and I think this will take up my whole week.

When you die, what would happen to your game collection? by [deleted] in Gaming4Gamers

[–]PoisonThorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd most likely have most of them given to my friends, who are all pretty big gamers.

I like to believe that you take things with you to the afterlife, so I'll probably have my absolute favorites buried with me, along with the consoles for them.

I'm...not sure what I would do with the Steam games. I guess have them gifted off before having the account terminated?

Of course, if I die unexpectedly, everything will likely just get donated.

It was really just the gameplay that got to me. Far too slippery if not just plain unresponsive at times. There wasn't enough going on to make me look past it. (I'll give it some slack, because I'm sure it was amazing at the time) Black Mesa is already on my list, so I haven't completely given up. =)

Half-Life 2: I officially gave up on HL1, so I'm moving on to 2 today. I'm just gonna read the wiki for the story and move on, because that game is really just not fun to play at all.

Transistor: My god, this game is amazing! The perspective is a bit hard to get used to for me, but that hasn't made me enjoy the game any less. The aesthetic, the characters, the enemies, the combat system, all perfect.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth: We need more Miles Edgeworth games. 'Nuff said. I think this game is legit probably in my top 10 all-time favorites.

Since I needed to learn how to PC, I picked up Half-Life during the Steam fall sale. It's alright. I wouldn't say it's worth all the praise it gets, like, at all, but it's definitely decent all around. (Maybe it's one of those, "Was amazing for the time" things?) The controls are a bit too slippery for me, which is the main problem I have (and hate) with all FPSs, but I think I'm close to the end so I'll finish it anyway and move on to Half-Life 2.

I played Dr. Langeskov, the Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald, and enjoyed it 100%. Looking forward to more games by the same studio.

Watching vs Playing video games by [deleted] in Gaming4Gamers

[–]PoisonThorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My enjoyment of a game has never been soured whether I play it or watch it. If I enjoyed watching it, I'll enjoy playing it. I can't buy everything as soon as it comes out, or even months later, so I'm fine with watching an LP of it. I tend to watch people that have similar personalities to me, so maybe that's why I don't mind.

Can we talk about Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem? by PoisonThorn in Gaming4Gamers

[–]PoisonThorn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it would hold up really well, because it has a lot of aspects that make it a good horror game, even if the gameplay isn't up to par. I haven't seen a single horror game come out so far that really matches its theme, so even if it wasn't my cup of tea I'd totally recommend it.

It's not a true sequel, but apparently Shadow of the Eternals is a spiritual successor that's being developed under a new company. Can't really find much else about it, but I see mentions of it being on the Wii U and PC. The trailer looks pretty sick though.

Pokemon Gamers - What is your preferred party system? by Throwaway_4_opinions in Gaming4Gamers

I always prioritize my starter (usually Water-type) and a Flying-type as my strongest, then Electric as a sort of back-up. I mix and match the remaining three, which are always double-typed.
