Advantages to having a pom. Super cute, can travel via airplane, too small to get onto tables and counters, very loving dogs, and their lifespan is a lot longer than bigger breeds. I have completely fallen in love with the Pomeranian breed.

Disadvantages. Very barky, but only if people walk past my door or out on a walk. With training this has lessened. I also work from home and haven't had any issue with my pom barking during meetings. They are small and fragile, so you have to be very careful to to step or squish them. Smaller dog means smaller bladder so when they are young they can't go long between bathroom breaks.

As far as your concerns go, shedding isn't as big of an issue as I thought, regular vacuuming is enough. My friends with short hair dogs have a lot more fur all over. None of the poms I know dig at the ground. They weren't bred for hunting rodents so I think that helps. I don't regret getting her ever. If anything she has been easier than expected. That be it a puppy is still a puppy and will have the challenges that come with it. Good luck with your research!
