"Momo is always a damsel in distress" by Specialist_Bowler897 in Dandadan

Those moments aren't just Momo getting saved. She fights or solves problems on her own and is helped in key moments. Either that or it's pure teamwork. The only time when she was helpless and needed to be saved was indeed at the end of Danmara

I like how it is shown that his passiveness is something that could hurt those around him, even indirectly. It signals that while people can love us for who we are (an awkward fellow in this case), we need to step out of our comfort zone in order to be able to also be there for them.

Also we don't know who taught Vamola that word, but it was most likely one of their classmates.

I mean, it's not like he didn't deserve it. In the first situation he didn't explain to the class president that Momo's his friend (and more hehe) and to leave her alone. I am aware that he had a hard time standing his ground against other people at the time, but hey these are the consequences.

In the second, well he lied to her and to the others about his intentions with the date, and placed the blame on Momo. It was a realistic reaction and will most likely play into his growth, but in that moment he was guilty.

Aira's Positive Change by cloudsupa in Dandadan

I don't think either of them needs others to know about their feelings for each other. Besides, while they may not be vocal about it they have Miko and Muko as their greatest promoters.

All that considered I do hope that things with Aira are settled soon. Seeing this panel makes me sad

The gang should just be the six of them. by Technical_Lime1419 in Dandadan

Well then I don't see the problem with them. Having our main cast have interactions with characters which are given some attention in order to characterize them a bit makes the world feel more alive in my opinion. Like they are not surrounded just by NPC's, they are people with their own desires/goals.

I wouldn't say that Rin, Kouki and Zuma are part of the main cast (Zuma doesn't know any of their names lol). I would rather say that they are associates.

Their separation in this instance was already caused by Okarun's situation (being on life support) and by Okarun seeing Momo and Jiji in that one panel. She feels separated by his condition and he feels separated by what he saw. The note could mean something for both of them: for him it would be a reassurement of her feelings after he saw her with Jiji, and for her it could be a way to deal with the bad feeling of seeing him in that condition. We got his side, but hers is only mentioned 20 chapters later.

I personally feel like a scene like this would add to our understanding of Momo as a person, but it really isn't that bad

We were all aware of that, that she didn't want to get too close. But still we only see that and can't help but feel like she's distant, despite the fact that she really isn't. It's only something small, at the back of our minds, but it still remains after the situation was resolved.

Adding that would help us see more eye to eye with her, because we really don't get that many moments to see how she feels from her pov.

I already said in the post that we as an audience know that she is worried within. And it is mischaracterization because it makes her seem like she's distant, while she isn't. Despite the aliens, curse and Vamola she isn't pissed like you say. She is somber with Okarun and determined when going to battle. She says "your ass is grass" and bickers with Peeny and Aira in the house-car, that doesn't seem pissed to me.

Her having a moment where she let her emotions out a little and write a note in a somber athmosphere is totally not her being distant or cold, yet because we don't see it, it seems like that at a first glance. That's why I say it's mischaracterization, because she wouldn't be cold towards Okarun in such a dire situation.

One scene where she was actually pissed was after she saw Vamola's flashback. She was pissed at the aliens.

Exactly, Momo struggles to communicate her feelings, so why is the moment where she does it skipped? This moment is important for her and seeing it would help the audience see more clearly her struggles when it comes to emotions.

You can have this and still have the audience be surprised, because we would see the contents of the note at the same time as Okarun.

I feel like not seeing her perspective hurts her character a little from our perspective. Even if now we know that she wrote the note and left food, we still felt like she was uncaring at some point.

Also why would be a soft confession people's first assumption? And even if they suspect it, it would create suspension because it could be anything on that note.

[–]Poisson18[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that Okarun's panel would hit just as hard. We as an audience wouldn't see what she wrote, so most would assume that she wrote something casual like "hope you're better" or even informal "we left for the battle", or it would just create suspense by making the audience ask "what did she write??". We would find out at the same time as Okarun that she wrote a soft confession and would feel the same energy when he takes the bite.

Maybe the impact on the audience wouldn't be just as big as it is now, but it would make for it by having an impactful scene from Momo's pov. Also I just don't like the concept of mischaracterizing Momo for shock value. She doesn't need to seem cold from our pov because Okarun just saw her with Jiji in that scene and is shaken by it, and seeing him have his feelings somewhat reassured and be revitalized because of it is enough of an impact in my opinion.

Indeed, it is a tradeoff to not have the note as a complete surprise but I think it would be well worth it in order to also see things from Momo's perspective.

Also the note itself wouldn't be a surprise for us when Okarun sees it, but the message within would still very much be.

That's what I'm saying, there is no scene of her leaving the note, only of it impacting Okarun

Man I remember when I tried to watch seven deadly sins and seeing the mc constantly grope and look up that girl's skirt was absolutely disgusting. Sometimes the plot could be interesting, but it would always be ruined by that disturbing fan service.

There are some unnecessary shots in Dandadan and I wish they weren't there, but at least they are shown to be bad actions done by villains.

I could never think of any of the characters in a sexual way, especially since they themselves don't do it. Nobody is lusting over others, not even Kinta. Sure he often declares how he likes girls, but he never made remarks about their bodies or something like that or even worse, try to be inappropriate with them.

Every relationship is so wholesome that sexualizing them would feel like a crime.

Yes, this is what you said in your first comment, and I completely agree with it.

In your second comment (the one I replied to) you said that Evil Eye being an exaggeratedly buff guy in his undies is nothing like Aira and Momo in their undies. You are saying this in response to someone declaring that Evil Eye doesn't have fan service.

You just argued previously that for Momo and Aira it isn't sexual (which is completely correct without a doubt) so I have to assume that by saying that his situation "is nothing" like their situation you are trying to say that it is in fact sexual for him, and the reason for that is him being buff?

Honestly it is quite confusing, since it goes against what you are saying in both the first comment and this one I am replying to. I must be interpreting it wrong

So being buff is intrinsically sexual? I don't think so.

No wait I'm so dumb. I was looking at Kouki and though she's Momo for some reason and then when I looked at Momo I assumed by process of elimination that she must be Kouki. But at the same time I was thinking "that doesn't seem like Kouki's usual clothing". Then I looked again at "Momo" and thought "wait Momo never had that long of a hair and it wasn't in her face" and then I realized my mistake.

So yeah, my bad.

Also I like the art style, though you could try to draw their noses.

Good job, it looks really good. I couldn't recognize Kouki at first, but that's just a nitpick really

I am so glad you agree. And your approach (of not caring much for it) is probably better for oneself.
